Restaurant Review + Giveaway: Blaze Pizza, ends 4/16 (4 pizzas!) #HowDoYouBlaze

I had the great pleasure of being able to sample the menu at Blaze Pizza Royal Oak two days ago, thanks to a blogger meet-up that Amber at Metro Detroit Mommy put together. I have had Blaze Pizza before, at the Novi location - Blaze has a tradition of doing a Free Pizza Day every time a new location opens - but had not yet tried out the Royal Oak location.

The first thing you should know about Blaze is that they are very fast. It would indeed be possible to come here on your work lunch break and be in and out within an hour or less. The ovens are crazy hot, and because of this, your pizza is ready after only 180 seconds - yes, three minutes - in the oven.

I started off with the Tomato, Basil, and Ovalini salad ($3.85, at left in the pic above) which was delicious - it came with a balsamic glaze, and I love sweet dressings. The ovalini cheese is one of my favorite toppings at Blaze, and I also got it on my pizza.

Your pizza choices at Blaze are:

  • 1 topping pizza ($5.85) or simple pie (cheese only, $5.00)
  • Build Your Own pizza - $6.95 - with unlimited toppings!
  • Signature pizzas - $6.95

I opted to build my own, and I included classic red sauce, shredded mozzarella, and of course, the ovalini cheese. I also included Italian sausage, pepperoni, fresh basil, mushrooms, and oregano, which ended up being a delicious combination. You can also add or modify any of the signature pizzas - previously, at Novi, I ordered the BBQ Chkn (yes, spelled like "Chkn") pizza but without onion or banana peppers.

Nom.

Don't forget drinks and dessert, too - I tried the blood orange lemonade that was very tasty, and we each got a S'more pie for dessert ... warm out of the oven!

The chef also whipped up this delicacy for us (bottom right picture, below), though you won't find it on the menu - a dessert pizza with nutella, graham crackers, and marshmallows. Think s'more pie, but bigger ...

The Royal Oak Blaze Pizza location was large and inviting, and there's also a small room that could be used for large groups or parties - that's where we were seated.

Blaze would also be excellent to hit up before or after a movie: the Emagine Royal Oak and the Main Art Theater are across the street (11 Mile and Main St.) from the restaurant, and the Emagine Novi is a short drive down the road from the Novi location.

We received some free pizza coupons from the nice people there, so I will definitely be back to try another delicious combination off their menu sometime soon!

*Disclosure: I received free menu items from Blaze in the hopes that I would write about their food. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own.
