The Friday Five, 4/10/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
This week seemed to go by really slow, compared to last week—unfortunately, I have not kicked the cough I mentioned last week, but yesterday I had a doctor's appointment and got some meds for it, at least.  Possible Huggies or Sam's model? What I've been up to this week: Seeing a movie at the theater. I was debating whether I wanted to take Good Friday off or Easter Monday or neither—I ended up taking Easter Monday off, and since I hadn't seen a movie since my birthday in January, I wanted to go to the theater. I saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie since I'm a big Mario fan and overall I enjoyed it, although I'll admit I fell asleep for about a half-hour during it since I was super tired that day. It was fun to be back at the theater again though and hopefully I'll make it back there soon—I basically can only go during the week if Baby K is in daycare.  Getting delivery and takeout . We got delivery from La Saj, in Troy, via Doordash, and I used to really love ...

January went by super fast and super slow, all at once, somehow, and we are finally near the end. My husband and I took today off work to go to Frankenmuth for Snowfest, but between the cold weather and other things, it didn't happen ... instead we will do some local errands since we have the time.  Monty Python's Spamalot at the Fisher What I've been up to this week: Taking care of a sick child (still).  Last Wednesday, Baby K got sent home from daycare with a fever . We kept her out Thursday and Friday, and by Monday, she was a lot better—however, because of the weather and the snow, daycare decide to close, which left us in a bind since we both work. We ended up both working a half day and switching off childcare. She's a lot better now, though, which is good. Seeing Spamalot at the Fisher Theatre . Last night, a friend and I went to the Fisher to see Monty Python's Spamalot , which will be there for another few days. I am not a huge Monty Python fan but overall...

Cancel everything, because it's like zero degrees outside (windchill feel of -15 ...) today and also, our baby is sick, so we are keeping her home from daycare for a few days. Bunny I saw outside What I've been up to this week: Getting takeout/delivery . A lot this week—we got Mamaeatz via Doordash on Friday night (a place that does Indian sandwiches—and they have a four for $25 deal which is pretty good), some friends brought over Jersey Mike's on Saturday for lunch, and on Saturday for dinner we got Big Dip Burgers via DD. On Sunday, my husband had to go out for an errand so he got us The Great Greek gyros (BOGO deal), and on Monday, he brought back Culver's.  Hanging out with friends . Rare these days! On Saturday, two friends and their 3-year-old daughter came over to meet Baby K for the first time, and they brought Jersey Mike's (as mentioned above), which was tasty. They stayed for a few hours and it was nice to see friends, as I don't get to do as much of...

This is a little later today because I am running on about three hours of sleep - Baby K has been sick for a few days, and is a bit better now, but because of that, her sleep schedule is all out of whack, it seems, which means her parents get no sleep either. What I've been up to this week: Buying baby clothes . Baby K *really* does not need any more clothing—between what I bought her previously, plus a ton of hand-me-downs, she's set until at least she fits into 12 months size—but everything is so cute. I also get a little sad when she sizes out of onesies I really liked, but Carter's usually has patterns up to size 12M, sometimes even 24M, so I can repurchase them. There was one I really wanted and they only had up to size 6M online, but I was able to order it in the store ... so I visited the Farmington Hills location for the first time ever, and of course ended up buying MORE cute onesies, like the one pictured above. Some in the baby boy section are also super cute, li...

September is flying by although, oddly, we are still having summer weather—which is good, because my ankles are still super swollen from pregnancy/giving birth, and it's been about five weeks now (so I've been living in sandals). Filet and Lyonnaise potatoes at Single Barrel Social, Brighton What I've been up to this week: Getting takeout/dining out. On Friday, I had to go to Beaumont (Corewell) Royal Oak for a leg ultrasound, so I definitely stopped by Crumbl around the corner to get some cookies—I had enough "Crumbs" (loyalty points) for a free one. I bought the Molten Lava cookie and the Oreo one (see below for pic), but weirdly enough I liked the Molten Lava better, as the Oreo one was very fluffy and more like a cake. On Monday, it was our anniversary, and my parents watched Baby K so we could go out for a nice meal; we ended up trying out Single Barrel Social, in Brighton, upon friends' recommendation, and it was very good, I would definitely go back. To...

September is flying by, and our one-year marriage anniversary is coming up Monday too (September 15th) ... it's a busy month! Homemade card from a family friend What I've been up to this week: Opening gifts.  A family friend gave us the gorgeous homemade card below (she sends these for every holiday/birthday/etc., they are so nice!) plus some onesies for Baby K and a piggy bank (but it looked like a cat!) with Baby K's name on it. A neighbor of my parents gave us a cash gift, too, and another friend of theirs gave us some very nice baby blankets and a cute robe for after bath time —which reminds me, we need to bathe our kid, LOL, as she needs one once per week. Doctors appointments . Basically this the only time we leave the house, haha. I had an OB appointment last week, a lactation consultant appointment this week, and technically two appointments with my PCP yesterday, one for Baby K and one for me. My doctor wants me to get an ultrasound for my legs and feet because the...

Well, we are definitely into September—the weather has been a lot cooler, which I've been liking, as I was not a fan of the 90 degree temps all summer (especially when being pregnant!).  Spicy Italian pizza from Buddy's What I've been up to this week: Getting tasty takeout/delivery . My other in-laws came to visit this past weekend (FIL and SIL, from Indiana) and we got Buddy's takeout one day, which was very tasty, including the Spicy Italian pizza pictured above ... I can't really do spicy foods but this is not very spicy, IMO. My MIL, husband, and I got takeout from The Great Greek (WB) on Wednesday but unfortunately my tzatziki was ordered on the side, and they forgot to include it—that's one of the best parts of the gyro. On Thursday, we got Potbelly's for lunch, which I hadn't had in a while; I used to really like their pizza subs, until they started adding more to it (I like it with just mushrooms, now it has mushrooms, pepperoni, meatballs, and c...

Well, August went by fast. Apologies for no Friday Five posts the past few weeks but I was a little busy having a baby and then keeping said baby alive :) see more below ... Hospital pictures What I've been up to *the past three weeks*: Having a baby . So right after I posted my Friday Five on Friday, August 8th, I had an OB appt., and my water (amniotic fluid) was low. They wanted me to be induced that day, but I said no—I needed to get my affairs in order, so to speak—and they were going to re-check me on August 11th (Monday), and they scheduled an induction for 8pm that day. On August 11th, my water level was slightly improved, but still low, so we went ahead with the induction, and my husband and I checked into the hospital at 8pm that day.  By around 10am on Wednesday, August 13th, I still hadn't progressed much—you need to be 10 cm dilated before they tell you to start pushing, and even on Pitocin I was 3-4 cm dilated, and in pain, until I had an epidural the night before...
