The Friday Five, 5/15/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
I am pretty sure Baby K is in a 9-month sleep regression, so this week has been pretty rough ... either that or her teething has kept her awake. We have been lucky to get 5-6 hours of sleep each night, and it has not been consecutive, LOL ...  Ice cream from Treat Dreams, Ferndale What I've been up to this week: Colonoscopy prep . Always the most FUN weekend of the year (right ....) and the fact that it happened to coincide with my first Mother's Day was the cherry on top—to be fair, I did schedule it myself, but I think I scheduled it in May or summer 2025 when I was pregnant, as I usually book it about a year beforehand. On Saturday, I had only liquids; on Sunday, I had liquids plus four liters of prep drinks total, at 8am and 5pm; and on Monday, I had 8am prep drinks. Did learn something this time though: you can have liquids (just not soup or Jello) up to two hours before you leave for the procedure ... in the past I always thought you couldn't even have water, etc. on ...

The Friday Five, 4/10/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week seemed to go by really slow, compared to last week—unfortunately, I have not kicked the cough I mentioned last week, but yesterday I had a doctor's appointment and got some meds for it, at least.  Possible Huggies or Sam's model? What I've been up to this week: Seeing a movie at the theater. I was debating whether I wanted to take Good Friday off or Easter Monday or neither—I ended up taking Easter Monday off, and since I hadn't seen a movie since my birthday in January, I wanted to go to the theater. I saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie since I'm a big Mario fan and overall I enjoyed it, although I'll admit I fell asleep for about a half-hour during it since I was super tired that day. It was fun to be back at the theater again though and hopefully I'll make it back there soon—I basically can only go during the week if Baby K is in daycare.  Getting delivery and takeout . We got delivery from La Saj, in Troy, via Doordash, and I used to really love ...

This week went by super fast for some reason, and I'm glad it's Friday because I've had a cough all week, so I'm hoping I can get more rest this weekend to kick it.  & Juliet, Fisher Theatre, Detroit What I've been up to this week: Seeing & Juliet at the Fisher Theatre. I had been looking forward to this one but wasn't entirely familiar with its plot, other than it was a twist on Romeo & Juliet . A friend mentioned it's a jukebox musical, and I was like, what's that? Turns out it used pop songs from the last 20-25 years or so and it was a TON of fun—it probably ranks up there with my top musicals now (in case you're wondering: Waitress and Phantom of the Opera ). It's at the Fisher until April 12, and you can find more info about it here . Going to Sam's Club . Not the most exciting thing in the world, but we left Baby K with my parents last Saturday and had a quick lunch at Culver's by ourselves and went to Sam's, because...

Well this week flew by, and it's suddenly the end of March! Today will be busy because I am both dropping off and picking up Baby K at daycare, and I also have PT at 9am ... I usually have it on Wednesdays but had to move it this week.  Rana "Marry Me" pasta from Costco What I've been up to this week: Working in the office . The last time I worked at my company's office (in Birmingham) was in July, because Baby K came early in August; I was on maternity leave until early November; my company then said I could come back in for February, but Baby K was sick the day I had signed up for; and lo and behold, it's now March. We have an office dog, and he was there yesterday (a bulldog), so that was fun, and I also got to go to La Pecora Nera for lunch—they have deli sandwiches, and last time I was there (just to get a cannoli), I was pregnant, so I couldn't have deli meat. They also give you a free cannoli if you sign up for their app, FYI, and they have three lo...

Well, here we are in mid-March already ... time is flying by. This week was busy but also kinda crazy so it didn't really seem like it.  Caramel chocolate chip cookie from Levain Bakery, warmed up What I've been up to this week: Going to social events. We had a baby shower to go to on Saturday, for the Best Man from our wedding plus his wife, and on Sunday, I went to a friend's son's birthday party ... it was going to be the first time Baby Kuhn went to a social event, too, but she had a runny nose and a cough this week, so my husband stayed home with her instead. It was nice to see friends though and get out—I feel like we don't get to do that as much anymore.  Getting delivery and takeout . Last Friday, I believe it was, my MIL was still in town, so we got El Patio via Doordash. On Saturday, I got us The Great Greek takeout, in WB (use code BOGO to get one free this month!), and we got Mamaeatz (Indian sandwiches) via Doordash earlier this week. We also got Noori,...

I was in Orlando from Sunday through Wednesday this week for work, and even though it was hot (about 87-89 degrees daily), it was nice to attend my conference and also get some consecutive sleep. Peeps bracelet from Alex and Ani What I've been up to this week: Work trip to Orlando . The last time I had been to Orlando was January 2018, when a friend and I hit up Disney World for two or three days, I believe, and Universal Studios for two days. I didn't have any theme park time this trip, unfortunately, but my conference (a candy one) was a lot of fun and I also squeezed in about an hour at the hotel's pool and waterslide area (see pic below).  Eating out and getting delivery . The day before I went on my trip, we got Pink Garlic via Doordash, which was tasty. The Sunday I arrived, I didn't get into my hotel room until 2pm or so, and my Uber had passed a Zaxby's on the way there—I have only had them once, so I got it via Doordash for lunch, plus I always get almond m...

Well, the first week of March went by FAST, and I'm headed to Orlando on Sunday for work, for a candy convention.  The Outsiders at the Fisher Theatre, Detroit What I've been up to this week: Seeing The Outsiders at the Fisher. I didn't know much about The Outsiders going into it, except I believe I read the book back in high school, and it's also a movie (released in 1983) with a pretty A-list cast. I saw the musical on Wednesday, with a friend, which ended up being pretty fantastic, and I'd highly recommend it; it's a sad story but also very compelling. It'll be at the Fisher until March 15 . Seeing Bert Kreischer at the Fox.  About a month ago, I started watching a show called Free Bert  on Netflix. My husband saw me watching it and said, hey, that's the Machine ! (aka, he recognized him because Berk Kreischer is a real-life comic) I looked Bert up online and saw he would be at the Fox on the 2nd and 3rd stops of his new tour, and we were able to get ...

And just like that, it's the end of February—to me, it kind of feels like January went by super slowly, and February went by super fast, for some reason. Sangria at Sedona Taphouse, Novi What I've been up to this week: Getting delivery/eating out . Last Saturday I actually got to go out to eat! Rare nowadays with a baby. I met a friend at Sedona Taphouse, in Novi—I used to go to the Troy one a lot for their happy hour, but have only been to Novi a few times. It's a little bit pricey but everything was good—I had the sangria (pictured above) and chicken marsala, and my friend had a cocktail and their gluten-free flatbread.  I also had a free birthday coupon for Crumbl, so I stopped by and got a S'mores cookie and also bought one of their Nutella ones; I liked both, but the S'mores was better IMO. On Sunday night, we got La Marsa via Dorodash, which is always tasty. On Sunday, we got takeout from Green Lantern, since I had a free cheesy bread coupon; their pizza is al...

This week went by fast, because I was in Dallas from Sunday through Wednesday for work. Not much going on this weekend except I am meeting a friend for lunch, which I'm looking forward to. Sign at the Hyatt Regency DFW, where I stayed What I've been up to this week: Work trip to Dallas . Both the conference and my accommodations were at the Hyatt Regency DFW, so I only got to leave the airport once (more on that below). I originally had an 8:30am flight that Sunday, and I got to the airport around 6:30am ... I was in line around 6:45 waiting to check my bag when I got a text saying the flight was CANCELLED, and they had rebooked me on a 9pm flight, getting in at 11pm. Kind of a problem when my meetings started at 8am the next day. I ended up rebooking and taking a 10:30am flight to Atlanta, then 4pm to DFW (Dallas Fort Worth airport) from there, but because of that I missed the Retail Rodeo, which would have had me going to a few grocery stores in the Dallas area. Thankfully on...

It's Friday the 13th, and I'm working till around 2pm today (I have a doctor appt. at 2:30pm) and then I'm off to Dallas for work on Sunday. Phantom of the Opera, Detroit Opera House What I've been up to this week: Phantom of the Opera  at the Detroit Opera House. Phantom is one of my two favorite musicals (the other being Waitress ) so I was super excited for this one. My friend who was supposed to babysit unfortunately texted me a few days before saying she was sick, but thankfully my parents were able to pinch-hit as babysitters. They've revamped the special effects a bit this time and the musical was REALLY good— it'll be at the Opera House until February 15th , and I highly recommend it. Getting takeout/delivery . We only had a short time window before Phantom on Friday, so I picked up Potbelly for us—after ordering from them the week before, they had given me a free sandwich deal in the app. On Sunday I was supposed to have lunch with a friend but I was fe...

I am SUPER tired today because Baby K decided to get up at 5:20am—Fridays are the one day we can sleep till 6:30am instead of 6:00am, because my husband works from home that day, so I wasn't super pleased. I'm going to rally, though, because I'm seeing Phantom of the Opera later at the Detroit Opera House  (it will be there till Feb. 15), and it's one of my favorite musicals. At The Reserve Steakhouse, Brighton What I've been up to this week: Going out for my birthday dinner . First Baby K was sick, then I think my husband or I had a cold, but finally last weekend we had time to go out for my birthday dinner, with my parents babysitting. I asked my husband to keep the venue a surprise, because I am usually the planner in our relationship and sometimes I like being surprised. We ended up going to The Reserve Steakhouse, in Brighton, which was excellent, except I thought the steak (supposed to be the star of the show!) was just okay. The appetizers and service were ph...

January went by super fast and super slow, all at once, somehow, and we are finally near the end. My husband and I took today off work to go to Frankenmuth for Snowfest, but between the cold weather and other things, it didn't happen ... instead we will do some local errands since we have the time.  Monty Python's Spamalot at the Fisher What I've been up to this week: Taking care of a sick child (still).  Last Wednesday, Baby K got sent home from daycare with a fever . We kept her out Thursday and Friday, and by Monday, she was a lot better—however, because of the weather and the snow, daycare decide to close, which left us in a bind since we both work. We ended up both working a half day and switching off childcare. She's a lot better now, though, which is good. Seeing Spamalot at the Fisher Theatre . Last night, a friend and I went to the Fisher to see Monty Python's Spamalot , which will be there for another few days. I am not a huge Monty Python fan but overall...

The Friday Five, 1/9/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

The first week of January has flown by, and now we are four days out from my birthday, which is crazy—every year I get surprised by how quickly my birthday comes up, after Christmas and New Year's and festivities, for some reason. Tasty snack from ALDI What I've been up to this week: Eating tasty things . The snack pictured above is one of my most favorite, from ALDI—and this is coming from someone who writes about snacks and candy as my job. It's basically a Golden Grahams-type cereal, with chewy marshmallows, chocolate, and caramel; I think the serving is like two to three clusters which is almost impossible, haha. I saw it again at ALDI last week when I was there buying applesauce and such for my husband, who was sick at the time, and I had to have it ... I asked my parents to look for it too when they went. I think it's an all-year-round product and not a limited-time one, too, which is good.  Cooking, kinda. I miss cooking HelloFresh and the meal kits but unfortuna...

The Friday Five, 1/2/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
Well, December flew by—I wasn't able to do a Friday Five last week because I was in Indiana for the holiday and didn't schedule a post—and now it's January, aka my birthday month! I feel like August through December 2025 went by fast (I wonder why, haha ...) and it's hard to believe our baby will be five months this month, too (on my birthday, actually; she and I share the same day of the month for our birthdays, which is fun).  Baby K on her new Lovevery play gym What I've been up to these (past two) weeks: Visiting Indiana for Christmas. This was our second time to Indiana in the past month—the first time was because we left Baby K with my in-laws to travel with friends to Louisville . Baby K thankfully does pretty well in the car, but the first time we drove there, we stopped at Culver's midway to eat; this time, we did it pretty much nonstop except for 1-2 breaks for me to use the bathroom and also pump in the car. Indiana was a lot of fun and I also got to ...

Super short Friday Five today, because we are trying to get Baby K out the door to daycare ... my husband and I both took today off work and we are headed to Frankenmuth today, I'm super excited about it although it means I'll have to pump "on the road" so we'll see how that goes ...  What I've been up to this week: Getting takeout/delivery . On Saturday night we got Pink Garlic via Doordash, and on Monday I had to run some errands so I got myself Culver's (I was at Meijer/Costco, same area in WB/Commerce Twp) which was tasty.  Seeing a movie at the theater!  Of course I slept through part of it, LOL, but I saw Now You See Me: Now You Don't on Sunday, because my parents (aka the grandparents) babysat for me, and from what I saw of it, I'd give it 4/5 stars. I liked the other movies in the franchise, as well. I signed up for the Emagine Extras program, which is $12.75 a year, so I could book online without any fees, and they gave me a free medium po...

Happy Halloween! Last year we had *eight* trick-or-treaters, which was the record for us, LOL. In 2022 and 2023 I believe there were about five. We'll see what happens tonight. Today is also my second-to-last day of maternity leave, as Baby K starts daycare on Monday and I go back to the "office" (I primarily work from home) on Tuesday. Baby K in one of her many Halloween outfits What I've been up to this week: Seeing Back to the Future: The Musical at the Detroit Opera House . On Wednesday, my husband and I ventured out to the Detroit Opera House to see Back to the Future: The Musical (huge shoutout to one of my friends for babysitting Baby K!), which was a lot of fun. I hadn't seen this one yet, and although the music isn't super remarkable, it's definitely worth seeing for the special effects/tech itself. A replica of the DeLorean was outside of the Opera House beforehand too, and we got a picture with it, which was great. The musical will be in town un...

The Friday Five, 10/24/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
I am up early today because we had a furniture delivery, but Baby K is still asleep, so I'm enjoying a leisurely breakfast (cereal) for the first time in a while. Until she wakes up, anyways ...  What I've been up to this week: Attending a wedding . A friend I know from a Meetup group for board games, whom I've probably known for about 5-10 years now, got married on Saturday night at the Henry Ford (Lovett Hall, technically) and my husband and I attended it. The venue was beautiful, and it's very historical, too; there was a board up on the wall with some old clippings, news items, etc. about the venue. We didn't stay too long, only until about 10pm, but it was still nice to get all dressed up and also see my friend get married—I believe the last time we saw each other IRL was when my husband and I visited Boston in 2023, and took engagement photos, since she now lives in Boston. Visiting with in-laws . The original plan was for my MIL to come into town to babysit w...

The Friday Five, 10/17/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has been very busy with friend visits—Baby K got to meet two of my friends, and four of my husband's friends (two couples), which was a lot of fun.  What I've been up to this week: Meet and greets with Baby K . Last Friday, some friends of my husband came over and brought homemade carrot cake and garden tomatoes, which was very nice. On Sunday, more friends came over, one of whom was the Best Man in our wedding, and brought us some flowers and Blake's ciders. On Wednesday, one of my friends visited (actually, one of the bridesmaids from our wedding), and brought some Thai food from Ann Arbor/Ypsi—Basil Babe, so good—and some sleep sacks for Baby K. And on Thursday, another of my friends visited, and brought some Eagle Rare (made by Buffalo Trace) from her Louisville visit, for my husband and I, plus a lot of cute gifts for Baby K. In addition, this weekend my in-laws will be visiting, since my husband and I are attending a wedding tomorrow at the Henry Ford and ne...
