The Friday Five, 4/24/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
The past week was pretty busy, because my husband and Baby K and I went to Indiana on Thursday, and then he and I were in Louisville from Friday through Monday with my sister-in-law (Baby K stayed with my in-laws).  Boudin balls at North of Bourbon, Louisville What I've been up to this week: Having good food . We kicked off the trip with dinner at North of Bourbon, one of my favorites—this is my third trip to Louisville (Nov. 2024 and Dec. 2025 were the others) and it's a very tasty restaurant. We always get the boudin balls (with pork, see pic above) and this time I split the chicken gumbo and a mushroom risotto-type dish with my SIL.  On Saturday, we ended up going to a food hall close to Rabbit Hole distillery (more on that below), and had some tapas-type items, like empanadas, which was good, and we also had really good charcuterie at the Garden and Gun Club, at Stitzel-Weller (see below) plus had good Italian food at Volare, which we had been to last December. On Sunday, ...

The Friday Five, 11/14/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

This is a little later today because I am running on about three hours of sleep - Baby K has been sick for a few days, and is a bit better now, but because of that, her sleep schedule is all out of whack, it seems, which means her parents get no sleep either. What I've been up to this week: Buying baby clothes . Baby K *really* does not need any more clothing—between what I bought her previously, plus a ton of hand-me-downs, she's set until at least she fits into 12 months size—but everything is so cute. I also get a little sad when she sizes out of onesies I really liked, but Carter's usually has patterns up to size 12M, sometimes even 24M, so I can repurchase them. There was one I really wanted and they only had up to size 6M online, but I was able to order it in the store ... so I visited the Farmington Hills location for the first time ever, and of course ended up buying MORE cute onesies, like the one pictured above. Some in the baby boy section are also super cute, li...

The Friday Five, 6/30/23: 5 things I've been up to this week

This month went by fast, but this week went by SLOWLY, so I'm glad it's Friday. I'm hoping it'll be a lighter day—I'm taking Monday and Tuesday off for the holiday, and I can't remember the last time I had a four-day weekend, so that will be nice. Hoping to see the new Indiana Jones movie on Tuesday, too. NOT sponsored - these were $36.95 normally, I paid $16.95 What I've been up to this week: Shopping online . I was scrolling through Facebook last week and I came across the earrings you see in the picture above—it was a deal from a page I think was called Hip2Save, and they were 14 karat white gold earrings for $16.95, instead of $39.95, so I bought a pair. I LOVE earrings, especially vintage-looking ones, and these ended up being super nice. Here's the (non-affiliate) link , if you are interested, they're back up to $39.99 though; they are available in rose gold, white gold, and regular gold.  I also bought a few other random things that should be ...

The Friday Five, 2/28/20: 5 things I've been up to this week

I was going to say "this week has went by fast yet slowly" but I realized I said that last week too, ha. Tonight I am planning on going to St. Julian's Winery (in Troy, near Oakland Mall) for a wine tasting that we bought off Groupon , and also finally trying out Ima (Madison Heights) for some udon and ramen. Homemade tiramisu + whipped cream from Giovanni's, Detroit What I've been up to this week: Eating out.  Last Friday, we tried out Giovanni's, in Detroit, for our rescheduled Valentine's Day dinner—I had food poisoning the Thursday before Valentine's Day, and didn't want to test my stomach like that. It was very good, although my favorite parts of the meal were actually the appetizers (portobello mushroom with garlic cream sauce) and dessert. I think I should have ordered pasta for my main dish, but I ordered chicken piccata, which was just okay. On Saturday, I had some coupons to use up at MOD Pizza, and we also stopped by Saigon Marke...

There was no Friday Five last week because I was in Israel - I was there from Sunday 6/10 through Sunday 6/17, and I flew back through Newark on the 17th and took a flight back to Detroit the next day, on the 18th. My jetlag has been slowly improving throughout the week but on Monday I definitely crashed hard and went to bed at 9pm ... Dead Sea, Israel What I've been up to this week: Traveling . Israel was amazing and I'm very glad I went, even though I'm still finding it hard to walk this week ... we climbed up and down Masada (see picture below) and although I'm not THAT badly out of shape (I walk and do zumba weekly, or at least I try to), it still kicked my butt, albeit providing some awesome photos. If you're Jewish and age 18-32, you should check out Birthright here  - they recently extended it to ages 27-32 which is how I was able to go. Planning my next few trips.  I am the type that comes home from a trip, unpacks my suitcase the same day, and the...

The Friday Five, 3/2/18: 5 things I've been up to this week

We got a huge amount of snow yesterday, probably around 5 to 9 inches, but I still ventured out for a friend's birthday gathering at a Korean BBQ place (always tasty). The roads overall weren't too bad, which was good. New game, from The Oatmeal! What I've been up to this week: Buying a new game . I already own Exploding Kittens , as well as the expansion pack , by the creator of The Oatmeal, and he has a new game out, You've Got Crabs , that looked pretty funny. You need 4 people minimum to play it, so I'll have to wait until either my next game night or whenever a friend hosts one.  Booking travel and finding out exciting news.  I *finally* bit the bullet and booked my Savannah airfare - $523 on Delta, so I used 25,000 miles and paid $273 (goodbye, my high mileage amount, I'll miss you ...). At the same time, yesterday I found out that I've been accepted for a Birthright Israel trip , so I'll be heading to Israel in June, for a week—which I...
