"The Back-Up Plan"

"The Back-Up Plan" is not a serious movie, but I was not expecting it to be. Instead, it's a fun, fresh comedy that has more than a few comedic scenes, and it exceeded my expectations.
Jennifer Lopez ("El Cantante") plays a single woman, Zoe, who constantly hears her biological clock ticking away. Since she hasn't yet met "The One," Zoe decides to use artificial insemination to become pregnant. That same day, however, she meets Stan (Alex O'Loughlin, TV's "Three Rivers"), and they soon begin dating. A few weeks later, she finds out she is pregnant - with twins. She finally musters the courage to tell Stan, and although he is understandably confused as to how she is already pregnant, he decides to stay with her and help her raise the children.
I would say Yes, see this movie; it was funnier than I thought it would be. There is one gross scene (all movies seem to have this these days, unfortunately) that definitely could have been left out, but other than that, the majority of the movie is lighthearted and has a lot of witty banter in it. The premise was interesting, in that it stuck to the "romantic comedy" formula - boy meets girl, boy has a relationship with girl, they fight, and then they get back together - but the fact that Lopez's character is already pregnant when she meets Stan throws a wrench into this. "The Back-Up Plan" is not a movie that will be revered for years to come, but it's definitely a breath of fresh air from some of the unmemorable comedies I have seen in the past few months.
