"Sex and the City 2"

Before I delve into this movie, I should probably warn you that I am biased: I started watching the TV series my senior year of college, on TBS, and immediately became hooked. I thought that the first movie was so-so - I missed Carrie's narrating - but I was still excited to see the sequel, and now I can happily report that my excitement was justified.

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker, "Did You Hear About the Morgans?") and Mr. Big (Chris Noth, TV's "The Good Wife") have been married for two years now, and she is starting to get restless. Their lives have become a little mundane, and though she's glad she still isn't single, she longs for the days of "going out on the town" that she and Big used to have. Meanwhile, Charlotte (Kristin Davis, "Couples Retreat") is starting to become overwhelmed by raising her two young girls; Miranda (Cynthia Nixon, "Lymelife") is having problems with a new boss at work; and Samantha (Kim Cattrall, "The Ghost Writer") has just been offered an all-expenses-paid trip to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to do some PR work. The solution? Bringing her three best friends along with her for the trip of their lives, of course.

The movie was a lot more fun than the first "Sex and the City" film, in my opinion, and we even see some of Carrie's narrating throughout the film. Liza Minnelli has a fun guest role as herself, officiating at the wedding of Carrie's two gay friends, and Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler, TV's "Californication") and David Eigenberg return as Harry and Steve, Charlotte and Miranda's husbands. The scenery in Abu Dhabi is fantastic, and it almost seems like all of the girls needed the break in routine to return to their original roles from the series.

I would say Yes, definitely see this movie. You may want to leave the guys at home, unless they're big Sex and the City fans as well, but I found the movie to be fun and perfect for summer. It clocks in at 2 hours and 25 minutes, which is a little long, but between the martinis, the scandals, and the fun and flirty moments, I guarantee that the movie will fly by.
