Movie Review: Think Like a Man Too

Think Like a Man Too movie review

It wasn't until I did a Google search that I realized I had reviewed the original Think Like a Man back in April 2012, showing that the movie wasn't particularly memorable. Unfortunately, neither is this sequel, even though there are definitely funny moments throughout Think Like a Man Too.

The gang is back again in this installment, in which Michael (Terrence J, or Jenkins) and Candace (Regina Hall) are getting married in Vegas. Cedric (Kevin Hart) rents out a lavish room at Caesars Palace, and both the girls and the guys have major bachelorette/bachelor party plans. Ms. Loretta (Jenifer Lewis), Michael's mom, wants the girls to have a ladylike tea party and then "take in a show," but that's not exactly what they want to do; only Candace's Uncle Eddie (Dennis Haysbert) is enough of a distraction so that they can slip away unnoticed. The boys want to, of course, see some strippers, but the girls hijack their bus, so they have to walk instead. A lot of the friends and couples have some unresolved issues going on, adding to the chaos.

There is a lot to recommend about this film, although there were also some things I did not like. Kevin Hart steals the show here, as he gleefully runs around his $40,000/night room (1200 square feet!) at Caesars, jumping up and down on the bed half-naked, only to later be found by Ms. Loretta. The cast was also great overall, but I wish we could have had more screen time with each couple, as the movie doesn't really focus on any of them, except maybe Hart's character. I also loved that they were in Vegas, as that's a favorite city of mine.

Maybe see this film. It serves fine as a popcorn movie, but I actually enjoyed part of the cast more in About Last Night, out this past February (also featuring Hart, Hall, and Michael Ealy). Like I mentioned, I would have liked to have seen more screen time devoted to each couple, or at least pick one couple to focus on; even though Terrence J and Regina Hall's characters were the ones getting married, they didn't really have any more screen time than the other couples. A few of the jokes also fell flat for me, but there were an equal number of jokes that I found funny. If you're looking for a good matinee to see, then I would recommend this movie; but definitely don't pay full price for it.

Think Like a Man Too is in theaters today, June 20th, and is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 122 minutes. 3 stars out of 5.

  1. This cast has been making the rounds on talk shows. It looks like a fun popcorn movie for sure.

  2. I bet this will head straight to DVD soon, hahaha. I think I'd shell out $3 at a second run theater for some cheap chuckles.

  3. I thought the trailer looked awful, glad to hear your thought so too. Just love your reviews, they make such a difference on my movie choices.
