Food Review: Michael Angelo's Family-size Meals
*Disclosure: I received a Walmart gift card to facilitate this review. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own.
Back in November, I reviewed Michael Angelo's single-serving meals, which are now some of my favorite Italian frozen meals. I was able to review their new family-size portion, and my family and I sat down last weekend to enjoy their Baked Ziti with Meatballs.
Some facts about Michael Angelo's and their new family-size frozen meals:
- The new meals come in five sizes, are 100% all natural (no additives or fillers), and can be found at Walmart
- Varieties include Meat Lasagna (46 + 80 oz.), Baked Ziti with Meatballs (44 oz.), Eggplant Parmesan (44 oz. and 80 oz.)
- Michael Angelo's uses vine-ripened tomatoes, imported Italian cheeses, and fresh veggies and herbs sourced from the best farms in the world, and each ingredient is selected by Michael and his mom, Sara
- It's owned and operated by a third-generation Italian-American family, and its meals are inspired by the homemade meals of founder Michael Angelo Renna's mom, Sara
- Their products are shipped to stores within 36 hours through a "made-to-order" process that eliminates the need for a warehouse, and guarantees freshness
- It was founded in San Diego in 1982 and has been based in Austin, TX since 1993
I headed to Walmart to find the ziti, and found the other varieties in the aisle as well:
The Chicken Piccata looked pretty good too - that's one of my favorite meals - but we were here for the big stuff: the family-sized dishes. The Baked Ziti and Meatballs is 44 oz., and is a bargain at $9.97 - it feeds 5-6 people but my family of 3 demolished it fairly quickly, albeit over two mealtimes.

I had tried the baked ziti and meatballs dish before, and it was as yummy as I remembered it to be. What's nice about the family-size portions is that we all were able to have a good-size portion for our meal, yet had enough leftovers that I was able to make another meal out of it the next time I was over my parents' house, too.

I'd definitely buy Michael Angelo's again - my mom mentioned that it would be a quick and easy dish to serve during the holidays, too, maybe around Thanksgiving or Christmas, if you're having a bunch of people over; you could even serve it during a BBQ this summer as a side dish.
Have you tried Michael Angelo's dishes before? What family-size meals do you enjoy making?
Their Eggplant Parmesan is delicious. I make it often, pairing it with spaghetti for a quick dinner.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried that one but not a huge eggplant fan. I'd like to try the lasagna at some point but right now the ziti is my favorite.
DeleteI love their Eggplant Parmesan. LOL...since my husband doesn't care for eggplant, it's all MINE!
ReplyDeleteHaha. That's the best, isn't it? :)
DeleteI love their eggplant parmesan too! AND the lasagna!
ReplyDeleteI love that they are all natural - I want to try the lasagna!
ReplyDeleteI really need something like this handy for the days when I have nothing else
ReplyDeleteI love simple homestyle food like this- I can't always cook from scratch and it's nice to not have to eat greasy fast food!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely nice!
DeleteThis looks delicious, normally I am a Stouffers girl but I am really going to try these out and might make the switch. I wonder if the family will notice.
ReplyDeleteI bet they will! :)
DeleteI have never tried these frozen meals before. They sure look delicious. Do you know if they are MSG free?
ReplyDeleteI believe they are but just googled it and it does not say for sure. The ingredients are all-natural, though, so I'd assume so.
DeleteThese look so good and I need quick good meals when we're in a hurry sometimes.
