I'm attending: Walker Stalker Con, Atlanta, October 17-19, 2014

Once upon a time, I hated horror movies and gory TV shows. There was a very popular TV show called The Walking Dead that I had never watched, but had a rabid cult following, and many of my friends watched it.

Before I attended BlogHer '13 last year, it was announced that Gale Ann Hurd, one of the executive producers of The Walking Dead, would be speaking, so when I went to Savannah and Atlanta in May of last year, I told my friend Sarah that she had to introduce me to the show. I figured I'd get through a few episodes and see what the hype was all about, then forget all about the show.

WRONG. So wrong.

I immediately got addicted, because it's a great show with fantastic writing and characters, and it didn't help that it rained all weekend in Savannah and my friend had brought her iPad. We rolled through season 1 and went on to season 2, and I even signed up for Netflix just so I could watch the rest of it.

Fast-forward to this October, when I will be visiting Sarah in Atlanta, partially since Walker Stalker Con is in town and I convinced her to go. The guests schedule is insanely good and features both Walking Dead AND Vampire Diaries cast members (and I watch Vampire Diaries as well), and I'm looking forward to interviewing some of the actors from the two shows.

The guests I'm most looking forward to seeing are:
  • Jon Bernthal (Shane, TWD)
  • Michael Rooker (Merle, TWD)
  • Melissa McBride (Carol, TWD)
  • David Morrissey (The Governor!, TWD)
  • Chandler Riggs (Carl, TWD)
  • Steven Yeun (Glenn, TWD, originally from Troy, MI)
  • Lauren Cohan (Maggie, TWD)
  • Ian Somerhalder (Damon!, Vampire Diaries)
  • Paul Wesley (Stefan!, Vampire Diaries)
  • Scott Wilson (Hershel, TWD)
  • Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, etc.)
  • Jay Bonansinga (author, TWD)

The rule is that for Walking Dead cast members, we can only interview those already off the show, but that includes most on this list, except for Carol, Carl, and Glenn.

On Saturday night there will also be a Zombie Bash party, and from what I've seen online about Walker Stalker Con's previous Boston convention, it looks like it will be a lot of fun - conference-goers get dressed up and there's dancing and other things going on.

If you don't live near Atlanta, too, the good news for you is that Walker Stalker Con repeats in other cities: NYC/NJ (Dec. 13 and 14), San Fran (Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2015), Chicago (Feb. 21 and 22), Dallas (March 14 and 15), Orlando (June 27 and 28), and Boston again (August 22 and 23) will all play host to zombies and vampires at the end of this year and through 2015.

The Atlanta convention takes place October 17-19 at the AmericasMart Building 2. Tickets range from $35-100 for general admission (1 day to 3 days admission) and can be purchased here.

Have you ever gone to a fan convention like Walker Stalker Con, or Comic Con? If so, how was your experience?

  1. This sounds like a blast and now my daughter is dying to go too! Lol!

    1. Ha. Well the Chicago one is not that far from us! :)

  2. Maggie is still on TWD, too. I would love to attend.

  3. That sounds like it would be fun to attend. I've not watched the show before, but I've heard many talk about it. Maybe one day I'll get into it also!

  4. My brother absolutely loves this show. How cool you get to attend this event. Awesome!

  5. I've never been to anything like this before, but it sounds fun. Can't wait to hear more about it!

  6. I LOVE Ian Somerhalder! He was my top pick to play Christian Grey in 50 Shades. I cannot wait to see your pics.

    Also Jason Momoa - YUM!!

    1. Same - he would have been quite yummy in 50 Shades, though I'm interested in seeing what the sheriff from OUAT can do. (Jamie Dornan)

And yeah, I've actually never watched GoT but I like Jason Momoa in other movies :).

  7. That looks like a lot of fun and I can't wait to see your posts and Social Media from it!

  8. There is a Walker Stalker Con! That is so cool! I watched Vampire Diaries for a while and my husband loves Walking Dead. Looks like an amazing event! Can't wait to see your photos from it!
