The Friday Five, 5/4/18: 5 things I've been up to this week

By the time you read this, I'll be in Savannah, for my second UYSB (Unofficial Yelp Spring Break). The weather is supposed to be super nice (80-85 for highs, 60-65 for lows) so I'm debating if I even need to pack a jacket!

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Seeing a Beatles tribute show. On Friday, four friends and my boyfriend and I did dinner at Calexico in Detroit, and then went to see RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles at the Fox. If you are a Beatles fan, it was a fun show, and they also showed us TV commercials from the time period too, which was interesting to see.
  2. Hobbling around like an old person. I did zumba on Saturday and then laid on my couch for a bit to watch TV, and one of those activities must have wrenched my back ... it's been very hard to walk this week. I am hoping I will be okay in Savannah—my back is definitely better today than it was on Monday, but I've been dosing myself with Tylenol (I can't have Aleve; long story) and also, as of yesterday, with Icy Hot.
  3. Celebrating my mom's birthday. Her birthday was last week, and my parents and I got together at Pasquale's in Royal Oak on Friday to celebrate. (pro tip: sign up for their e-club, you get $20 off during your birthday month!)
I gave her a gift card and also a chocolate penguin (see pic below) from L.A. Burdick in Chicago ... almost too cute to eat!
  4. Seeing Avengers: Infinity War. This movie is hard to rate. Overall, I liked it, but I did feel like they tried to cram a lot in, despite the 2 hours 40 minutes runtime. The ending was quite shocking, also—I won't spoil it here, but if you're a Marvel fan, you have to see this movie. I'd maybe give it 3.5/5 stars.
  5. Cooking. I had three Home Chef meals to cook. My favorite was the ginger steak one that my boyfriend and I made on Saturday night—it legit tasted like Chinese takeout. Second favorite was a mushroom marsala skillet that I made for Saturday lunch, and third favorite was creamy chicken piccata, which I made for Monday dinner ... they forgot to include the capers in the meal, and also I undercooked the chicken, so it wasn't that great. The Brussels sprouts/carrots side was a little blah too, as it was only topped with salt, pepper, and Parmesan.
