The Friday Five, 2/22/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has been fairly busy and tonight I am headed to Ann Arbor—I usually go about once a month but I think the last time I was there was in October, and that was only to see Death of a Salesman starring Alec Baldwin (who was actually seen in Flint this week!). I will be staying overnight and then tomorrow doing brunch with some friends, too.

Girl Scout cookies and wine pairing event

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Girl Scout cookies and wine pairing event. Four friends and I went to the Michigan by the Bottle tasting room in Auburn Hills for this event, which was a lot of fun. $20 got you five Girl Scout cookies and five 2 oz. pours of wine. I'm not usually a big red wine person but I found a sweet one that I liked, and since we also received a $5 off credit for attending the event, I bought a bottle to take home, too.
  2. Seeing lots of movies. Last Friday, I saw Alita: Battle Angel in IMAX 3D at the AMC Forum; originally we were going to see it in regular 3D at AMC John R, but we were running late so opted for the Forum's 8pm time instead. I'd give that 4/5 stars and I really liked it—if you like sci-fi or dystopian movies, I highly recommend it. On Sunday, we saw Cold Pursuit, which was good in a dark humor type of way, and I'd give that 3.5/5 stars. On Monday, a friend and I saw Isn't It Romantic, which was cute but not as cute at the trailers make it seem; 3.25/5 stars for that one. I'll also be seeing Fighting with My Family this Saturday.
  3. Eating out and also cooking. Last Friday before the movie, we went to Jersey Mike's for a quick dinner. Before the GS cookies event, friends and I did breakfast in Auburn Hills, and on Sunday we did Hungry Howie's takeout—takeout pizza is normally a treat, but HH had screwed up our order last time so was treating us to a free pizza this time. I also had some pretty awful bubble tea in Auburn Hills since we had time to kill, so on Sunday I went to BAMBU to get some "real" bubble tea. On Monday, my friend and I went to BJ's Brewhouse before the movie, which was great, and on Tuesday, I met a friend at Mr. Kabob (Troy) for lunch, which has since moved to the old Piada location ... have to say I'm not a fan of the new set-up, but the food is still good. I also cooked some Hello Fresh meals last week and Dinnerly meals this week.
  4. Adulting. My furnace was acting funky this week so I had someone come take a look at it ... of course, NOW it's behaving itself and the technician couldn't find anything wrong with it. I luckily have an insurance plan through Consumer's Energy, so the visit was free.
  5. Vacation planning. A friend wanted to go to Miami for her birthday next month, and I said I'd be interested, because it definitely will be nice to get some sun and get out of the cold temps here for a bit. I'm also going to be going to Rhode Island this summer to visit family, so I booked the airfare for that this week too.
