The Friday Five, 7/26/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week was busy and I no longer know what day it is, because I went to Louisville for a super quick work trip Monday through Tuesday, so then Wednesday seemed like my Monday ... so I'm glad today is Friday.

Detroit and Ford Field at night

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Hanging out with friends. Last Friday, some friends and I went to Isla, at Fort Street Galley, for some Filipino food, and then went to a few Detroit bars. We started off at Candy Bar, inside the Siren Hotel, which was very nice, and we checked out Sid Gold's Request Room, in the alley behind the Siren Hotel, too, which had just opened that day. We ended our night at the Monarch Club, which I would not recommend, as the (bouncer? host?) was super rude to us. I will say their views from the rooftop bar are pretty good, though, as you can see above. On Sunday, I met up with some friends for our book club, also, at The Root in White Lake, which is usually very tasty; that was my second time there, but first for brunch.
  2. Quick work trip to Louisville. I had never been to Louisville, and I went for the IAFP conference, which is a conference on food safety. My takeaway from Louisville is that people like to drink bourbon there, lol, and I had a mint julep on my one dinner out there, too. They have a cute little downtown area, also.
  3. Seeing movies. I saw The Lion King on Sunday and I wasn't a huge fan of it (but OMG, can I have baby Simba to keep? SO CUTE) ... I would give it like 3.5/5 stars, and the extra 1/2 star is only because the CGI animals were so lifelike. I saw Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood at a screening on Wednesday night and that was much better, I would give it like 4 out of 5 stars - click here to read my review.
  4. Catching up on TV. I intentionally left yesterday as my "day off" (no plans after work) and I cooked a Home Chef meal and caught up on my TV shows: Jane the Virgin (only one episode left until the series finale, boo!), Divorce, Younger, Grown-ish, the Big Little Lies season finale, and one episode of Harlots. Tonight I will watch this week's Handmaid's Tale, too.
  5. Becoming Silver Medallion on Delta! I'm a little too excited about this, LOL, but I now have status on Delta, which I've never had before, and I believe I keep it until December 2020. When I arrived at SDF (Louisville airport) on Tuesday, they even had a separate bag check line for "Sky Team Elite" members, and that includes Silver medallion. I put in the Delta app that I'm amenable to Comfort+ and First Class upgrades, too, so I was refreshing the app all day to see if I would get one ... at the very last minute, they upgraded me to Comfort+, which was cool, although it was a window seat, and I really need an aisle (due to stomach issues). For a 1-hour flight it was fine, but when I go to Vegas in September for work, I am unchecking the Comfort+ upgrade box, because there's a chance I could get a window seat (or worse, middle ...).
