The Friday Five, 11/15/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

The good news is that my doctor put me on some steroids, temporarily, so I have been feeling much better this week. The bad news is that it makes me want to eat everything in sight, and I have been snacking a lot at night, so I need to stop doing that ... I weighed in today and the number on the scale was not pretty ...

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Mini-vacation to Holland. I had some Radisson points, and we were able to buy more to get one night at the Country Inn, in Holland, last Friday night. It was mostly a foodie vacation ... Giordano's deep-dish pizza is down the street, and the next day we went to The Southerner in Saugatuck, too, which is one of my favorites—they have THE best fried chicken I've ever had, and I've been to New Orleans and other chicken-y (lol) places too. We also stopped by Crane's in the City, in downtown Holland, so I could get some of their delicious blueberry pie, and later we stopped by Portage to visit friends and their new baby.
  2. Seeing movies. Last Friday we ended up seeing Doctor Sleep, because the AMC Holland was apparently next-door to our hotel ... it was excellent and probably one of the better movies I've seen this year, especially for Shining fans. I would give it 4.5/5 stars, only because it was a little slow in parts. On Saturday, we saw the new Terminator, and I took a nap during it ... I'd give it 3.5/5 stars. Tonight we are going to see Ford v. Ferrari and we are shlepping up to the Forum to see it, so we can see it in Dolby, and tomorrow I am dragging my boyfriend to see Last Christmas with me, since I've been wanting to see it. I have a full slate of movies for next week as well. I also saw the new Mister Rogers movie this week, and you can read my review of that here ... I really enjoyed it, I'd give it 4/5 stars, and Tom Hanks was terrific as Mister Rogers.
  3. Seeing live shows. On Tuesday, a friend and I saw Jitney at Music Hall, but unfortunately we weren't really fans of it. Yesterday, some friends and my boyfriend and I went to see Jurassic World Live at Little Caesars Arena ... it's definitely more for kids, but I enjoyed it, and it had some great special effects too, as you can see in the pic above. That's at LCA through this Sunday, and you can find more info on it here
  4. Eating out. Which probably partially explains the weight gain ... during the mini-vacation last weekend we ate a lot, and then on Sunday I went to Maggiano's with my parents to celebrate their anniversary. On Tuesday, a friend and I went to Mr. Kabob Xpress before Jitney, and yesterday we went to Bahama Breeze before Jurassic World Live—they do a great happy hour, they have drinks for $5 and most appetizers are around $4-5 too. They had also sent me a "free happy hour appetizer" coupon in the mail recently.
  5. Attending a grand opening. On Wednesday, I attended the grand opening of Sevenco, a new co-working space in Troy. Check back on Sunday for a blog post about that, as well as the chance to win a one-week pass for the facility.
