The Friday Five, 11/22/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has seemed pretty long for some reason, and I accidentally stayed up until like 2am yesterday, so I'm tired today ... ready to maybe get some sleep this weekend, though I have a lot of things upcoming, too.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Eating out, probably too much ... The prednisone I'm on makes me want to eat all day and all night, too, so that also doesn't help. Last Saturday, my boyfriend and I tried out Que Huong, for pho, in Madison Heights, and it was my first pho experience; it was very good, and the portions were huge. Later in the week I ventured over to Saigon Market, across the street, and picked up two of their $4 banh mi's, which were fantastic (a little better than Que Huong's, too). On Wednesday, my parents and I went to Rusty Bucket for their happy hour—the one in Bingham Farms—and that was good too, and yesterday a friend and I went to El Guanaco, in Troy, before seeing a musical at the Fisher. Today I'm meeting a friend for Ashoka's lunch buffet, which I'm excited about (love their food), and my boyfriend and I are doing Jersey Mike's for dinner—I highly recommend subscribing to their email list if you dine there, they're doing a "meal deal" for $15.99 this week (two subs, two bags of chips, two drinks).
  2. Seeing Hello, Dolly! at the Fisher. A friend and I saw this last night and it was really good—I enjoyed it a lot. It's playing at the Fisher until December 1st, and you can read more about the show and purchase tickets here. I definitely want to watch the movie now too, apparently HBO has it on-demand and on Prime.
  3. Seeing movies. Quite a lot, as I'm behind on my movie-watching, and will be taking advantage of my three AMC A-List movies per week. Last Friday we saw Ford v Ferrari, in Dolby at AMC Forum, and I'd give that 4/5 stars. On Saturday, we saw Last Christmas, and I really liked it up until that ending ... I'd give it 3.5/5 stars. On Monday, I saw Harriet, and although it was too slow for me, the story was interesting and acting was good ... 3.5/5 stars. And on Wednesday I saw an early media preview of Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig—check back after 11/25 for that review, although the movie itself isn't out until Christmas day. Tonight we are seeing an "early preview" (still paid, through AMC) of Knives Out, as well.
  4. "Fakesgiving" with friends.  Last Sunday, a friend of mine put on a "Fakesgiving"—aka a Friendsgiving—and she made everything from scratch, and it was delicious. She included turkey (of course), mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, rolls with homemade honey butter, and like three different kinds of pies ... needless to say, we all left stuffed. My parents and I don't really do "traditional" holiday meals, either, so it was nice to be able to enjoy a "proper" Thanksgiving meal with friends, too. The hostess also made us individual place mat things (almost like paper origami), and each had a handwritten note inside plus some Hershey's kisses.
  5. Cooking. Even though I ate out a lot this week, I had ordered a Hello Fresh box the previous week and also this week, so I've been cooking a lot too. We made some Asian-inspired burgers on Tuesday that were very good, and tomorrow I have a chipotle steak bowl to make. I did not order a box for next week though because it's Thanksgiving week, and therefore there will be plenty of food and no time to cook Hello Fresh meals.
