The Friday Five, 1/24/20: 5 things I've been up to this week

"Readjustment" has been hard this week, and to make matters worse, it's been super cold here too. I need to start eating less and working out more, based on this week's scale reading ...

Shoyu Ramen at Tomo, Troy, MI

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Eating out, and trying new places. On Tuesday, a friend and I went to El Guanaco for dinner before A Bronx Tale at the Fisher, and on Wednesday, my boyfriend and I tried Tomo, in Troy, since I had a Groupon. Tomo was just okay, but some hot soup (ramen) was nice on a cold night. Tonight we are going to try Zeoli's, in Clawson, since I won a gift certificate.
  2. Seeing A Bronx Tale at the Fisher. On Tuesday, a friend and I went to see this show. I wasn't entirely sure what it was about, going into it, but ended up enjoying it; I didn't LOVE it, but I liked it a lot. The music is similar to West Side Story, Grease, and Jersey Boys, and I'd recommend seeing it. I still haven't seen the movie, with Robert De Niro, but I hope to at some point.
  3. Redeeming birthday freebies. A lot of them expire 1/31, so I've been trying to use them up. Last Sunday, I went to Mission BBQ, in Troy, and got my free pulled pork sandwich; I went to Grand Traverse Pie this week to get my free mini pie (your choice of either a slice of pie a la mode, or a mini pie), and I still need to redeem my free Biggby drink—I tried to on Saturday, but they were closed due to the snow. On Monday, I had free lettuce wraps from PF Changs for lunch; on Thursday, I had a free chicken sandwich and fries from Red Robin; and today I am hoping to stop by Sbarro, at the mall, to get my free pizza slice, since that coupon expires today.
  4. Seeing movies. Last Saturday I TRIED to see Like a Boss, at AMC John R, only to get there and find that the theater was closed—some of the traffic lights on 14 Mile were out, and when I got to the theater, the outside lights were on, strangely, but employees were turning away people. I then went down the street to BJ's (my new favorite place, lol) and they were open. I tried again yesterday and saw the movie, which I would give 3/5 stars—it was cute and fluffy, and worth seeing, but nothing special. Tonight we are seeing The Gentlemen, which just opened this weekend, and tomorrow we are seeing Parasite—the second time for me and first time for my boyfriend. I am hoping my 4.5/5 rating still stands the second time around, or maybe even a 5/5 this time.
  5. Getting a massage. I signed up for a membership at MassageLuXe in Troy, the reason being that my first massage was $10. Unfortunately, $65 massages (+ tip) each month is not sustainable for me, so I knew going in I'd only be doing two massages. I have one more next month and then that's it for me (for a total of 3 massages: my first one was $35 through a Black Friday special). Their massage tables are heated, and on a cold winter day, it's SO nice; I highly recommend them.
