The Friday Five, 12/18/20: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has felt super slow, but work-wise, it has been busy. Yesterday was supposed to be TV Day, where I go to Best Buy for curbside pickup to pickup the new 50" Samsung TV I bought (thank you Best Buy blogger gift certificates, which I had hoarded for a few years), but my boyfriend had to work late, so TV Day is pushed to today! My current TV is a 32" Dynex, from 2012, that I got for free with my mattress purchase, so this should be a huge upgrade.

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Watching lots of movies at home. Last weekend, my parents and I watched The Prom, on Netflix, which had a great cast and is based on the Broadway show; I'd give it 3.5/5 stars. On Sunday, my boyfriend and I finally watched Bill and Ted Face the Music, but IMO it wasn't that good; I'd give it maybe 2/5 or 2.5/5 stars, but he said he'd give it 3/5 stars, and that it was the same style as the previous Bill and Ted movies. On Tuesday, we watched a virtual screening of Greenland, with Gerard Butler, which I would give 3 or 3.5/5 stars. On Wednesday, I had a screener link for Sylvie's Love, which will be on Prime on 12/23, and I'd give that 3.5/5 stars. Still on my list to watch is Clouds, on Disney+; Safety; and the new Meryl Streep movie, on HBO Max.
  2. Getting takeout. Last Friday I got Main St. Kitchen in Clawson, from Uber Eats, which is one of my favorite pandemic places to order from, as their food is always PIPING hot—I highly recommend it if you enjoy Indian food. On Saturday, my parents and I got Noodles & Co. takeout, and on Sunday, my boyfriend and I got Pumachug takeout, in Clawson, which was delicious. On Tuesday, I was craving pizza, so we got an 8-square pizza from the new Buddy's in Troy; the restaurant itself is really nice, so I can't wait to dine-in once I get the vaccine.
  3. Cooking. I had an EveryPlate box this week, and yesterday I made Sweet Chili Tacos with Red Cabbage Slaw, Lime Crema, and Peanuts; I'd give it 3/4 stars (EveryPlate operates on a "4-star" system). I have a Griddled Onion Burgers recipe for tonight and also a Saucy Chicken & Pepper Stir-Fry recipe for the weekend. Last week I ordered a Dinnerly box, and next week will be Dinnerly as well.
  4. Ordering clothes online + picking up in-store. I ordered a few things from Maurice's and during Black Friday, they were offering free shipping; a few days later, it was free to pick up in-store, but they were no longer offering free shipping. Unfortunately, out of the six items I ordered, I only ended up keeping two ... I had ordered three bras and three t-shirts. All of the t-shirts fit but I didn't really like two of them; I kept the third one. Two of the bras fit, but they're more of a "racerback" style, which means they're really hard to wear with t-shirts without poking out of the top, so I only kept one of them. I ordered a few more for Target pickup and then Target told me they didn't have them in-store, so they are shipping them instead.
  5. Ordering a new TV. Like I mentioned above, I had $250 in Best Buy gift cards—I used to blog for them, and they would pay in gift cards, which I would hoard until I needed them (case in point: in 2018, my build-in microwave broke, so I used $300 of them for installation and a new microwave). However, we have all been stuck at home due to the pandemic for almost a year now, and it's time for a new TV; my current one is 32" and is 8 years old, although it still works fine. I am going to move that one to the upstairs bedroom and give my Dad the one that's currently up there, a 32" Sony Bravia that my boyfriend's parents gave to me a while back since they were getting rid of it. I was waffling between the 50" Samsung and 50" TCL, but I chose Samsung; hoping that I enjoy it, although I think I will since that will be a big upgrade from my current 32" Dynex.
  6. BONUS - forgot to add: celebrating Hanukkah. (see below)
