Golden Globes nominations announced today

The Golden Globes, hosted this year by Ricky Gervais, will air on Sunday, January 16th, from 8pm-11pm EST (5pm-8pm PST). The nominations this year were very surprising, in my opinion, because there were a lot of actor/actress nominations for movies that I thought were just so-so (and the individual performances, in my opinion, were not exceptional either).

Here's my picks for who and what will win, in the film categories:

Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy, or Musical:
Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right)
Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs)
Angelina Jolie (The Tourist)
Julianne Moore (The Kids Are Alright)
Emma Stone (Easy A)

This could be a tough one. I would love to see Emma Stone win, as her performance in "Easy A" was hilarious, but I am thinking that the critics are going to pick Bening or Moore for their performance in "The Kids are All Right." I didn't much care for that movie but it was definitely a critics-pleaser. Hathaway did have a good performance in "Love and Other Drugs," but the movie was so-so.

Actor in a motion picture, comedy or musical:
Johnny Depp (for Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist)
Paul Giamatti (Barney's Version)
Jake Gyllenhaal (Love and Other Drugs)
Kevin Spacey (Casino Jack)

Jake was cute in "Love and Other Drugs" but Johnny Depp's performance as the Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland" was completely off-the-wall (as it should be, playing the Mad Hatter). I haven't seen "Barney's Version" or "Casino Jack," though, so these could be contenders as well.
PS: What is with all the "Tourist" nominations? Fun movie but not really Golden Globe material.

Actor, supporting role in a motion picture:
Christian Bale (The Fighter)
Michael Douglas (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps)
Andrew Garfield (The Social Network)
Jeremy Renner (The Town)
Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech)

There is no question on this one. Granted, I haven't seen "The King's Speech," but I just saw "The Fighter" last week, and Bale's performance was phenomenal. He is truly a "method" actor.

Actress, supporting role in a motion picture:
Amy Adams (The Fighter)
Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech)
Mila Kunis (Black Swan)
Melissa Leo (The Fighter)
Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom)

I haven't seen three of the four movies referenced in this category, so it could be any of these women. I will say that both Amy Adams and Melissa Leo were great in "The Fighter," though, and if I had to pick from those two, I would pick Adams.

Best director, motion picture:
Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)
David Fincher (The Social Network)
Christopher Nolan (Inception)
David O. Russell (The Fighter)
Tom Hooper (The King's Speech)

I'm going to go with "Inception" for this one but any of these could win. I've heard some good buzz about "Black Swan," and both "The Fighter" and "The Social Network" were excellent films.

Best motion picture, comedy or musical:
Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist

I would love to see "Red," "Alice in Wonderland," or even "Burlesque" win this one but again, I'm going with the critics favorite, "The Kids are All Right."

Actress, motion picture, drama:
Halle Berry (Frankie & Alice)
Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole)
Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone)
Natalie Portman (Black Swan)
Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine)

I actually have not seen any of these movies, but Portman's role in "Black Swan" has been getting Oscar buzz, so I will go with her for the win.

Actor, motion picture, drama:
Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network)
Colin Firth (The King's Speech)
James Franco (127 Hours)
Ryan Goslin (Blue Valentine)
Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter)

If Jesse Eisenberg does not win this, it will be a shame, but Franco could sneak in there for "127 Hours," a movie I didn't particularly like.

Best motion picture, drama:
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network

This is a really hard choice, but out of all the movies I've seen in 2010, "Inception" was the only one that really blew me away. Any of the other four are good choices as well, but I am choosing "Inception" as the winner.

Animated movie
Toy Story 3
The Illusionist
How to Train Your Dragon
Despicable Me
Tangled

"Toy Story 3" made me laugh hysterically, and "Tangled" was very cute, but it was the minions in "Despicable Me" that won me over. Should be a close race between that and "Toy Story 3," though.
