The Friday Five, 4/11/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

April seems to be flying by, which is bad because I have a lot of things I still need to do, LOL. No travel this month at least, although we are going to Indiana at the end of the month to celebrate my in-laws' birthdays. Pesto chicken pasta at Pops for Italian, Ferndale What I've been up to this week: Birthday party for a friend . A friend had her birthday party at Painting with a Twist in Ferndale last Saturday, which gave me an excuse to visit Ferndale—I hadn't been in a while, but parking was a PITA because there was also a protest going on (it was a national day of protest). I've only done a Painting with a Twist-type of place one other time, in 2016 for a friend's bachelorette in New Orleans, and it was a lot of fun, even though I am definitely not artistically inclined, haha. I ended up taking home two paintings, actually, because I won a contest they had going on, and the other painting was more professional-looking, and I really enjoy it. We also went to Po...

*Disclosure: I have been given tickets to the show in exchange for this post. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. I have seen David Sedaris live in person maybe four to five times now: the first few were at Hill Auditorium, in Ann Arbor (on UM's campus), and I've seen him twice at the Fisher Theatre. His readings, just like his work, are very entertaining, and it's always great to meet him after the show to get one of his books signed.  He'll be at the Fisher Theatre next month, on April 8th - read below for more info! About the reading: David Sedaris, author of the previous bestsellers Calypso, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim , and regular National Public Radio contributor will be appearing for one night only at the Fisher Theatre on April 8, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. following the release of his newest books, Happy Go Lucky and Pretty Ugly. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 6 and will be available online at BroadwayInDet...

COMING SOON! David Sedaris, October 23, Fisher Theatre, Detroit

*Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. However, the opinions expressed here are my own. Back in April , I wrote about David Sedaris and how he will be coming to the Fisher Theatre this month. I'm super excited to see him ... I've seen him two other times, I believe, both at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, so this is my first time seeing him in Detroit. He will be doing a signing after the show this time, as well, and one time my mom and I met him before a show, at his signing ... he's a funny guy. It was my mom's birthday that week, and he looked distraught and said "Oh no, but I didn't get you a gift!" He then rooted around in his bag and handed her some hotel toiletries as her "birthday gift," ha. He's also well-known for signing obscure things in books ... in my book he drew a dagger (I still don't know why ...) and signed his name. About the show: ONLY two weeks away! With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Seda...
