The Friday Five, 11/3/17: 5 things I've been up to this week

This has been a very long week and all I want right now is a nap, but instead I am seeing Kinky Boots downtown later, with a friend. We are going to Rusted Crow beforehand, for dinner, which should be tasty, too.

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Winning things. On Saturday night, I believe, I got the notification from a blogger friend of mine that I had won her Instagram contest - which has a value of about $500! It includes a Le Cruset 5 qt. Dutch oven, a year's supply of bread from La Brea Bakery (12 coupons), a cutting board, an apron, and salt and pepper shakers. Not going to lie, I've been coveting Le Creuset cookware for forever, so I'm pretty excited about it. The Dutch oven retails for $250-350 on Amazon.
  2. Eating things. Last Sunday, my boyfriend and I went to IKEA and then to New Peking, for Chinese food, which is where Jay Leno recently ate and raved about. The food was pretty good, and even though there are no lunch options on Saturdays, you get a huge amount of food for a reasonable price. Also, yesterday I attending the soft opening/VIP party for the new Fogo de Chao, in Troy, which was fabulous ... check back soon for a blog post about that.
  3. Booking travel! As you probably have figured out if you're a longtime reader of my blog, I love traveling. After the BlogHer conference this year, I found out that I won a 2-night stay at the Hilton Bonnet Creek, the beautiful hotel where BlogHer was hosted this year, and I have until June 2018 to use it. A friend and I are going to travel to Orlando in January this year, over my birthday weekend, and spend 2 days at a Disney hotel (Coronado Springs) and 2 at the Hilton. We are also throwing in 1 day at Universal Studios (World of Harry Potter!! It's been on my list for FOREVER) which should be fun. Should be a great trip! And if you have any WDW or Universal Studios suggestions, please let me know - other than my one day at WDW this past summer, I haven't been since 2006.
  4. Driving to Pontiac for a concert. Simply Three, one of my favorite "classical crossover" bands, was playing at The Pike Room, at The Crofoot, this Wednesday night. It turned out to be a super intimate concert—there were MAYBE 30-40 people there, and we all got chairs. Their YouTube videos have millions of hits, and I've been a fan of them for quite some time. It was so nice to see them in such a small setting!
  5. Not getting enough sleep, per usual ... Last night I got overexcited about Disney vacation planning, and didn't go to bed until 1am. Definitely feeling it today. Tonight is going to be a late night too, but Saturday I'll be home most of the day, so hopefully will be able to get to bed at a 'reasonable' time.
Simply Three, at the Pike Room at the Crofoot (Pontiac). They were awesome!
