The Friday Five, 2/2/18: 5 things I've been up to this week

It's finally February! I'm hoping to be much healthier this month, both in eating habits and in overall well-being, though I've been eating out a lot this week. Birmingham Restaurant Week is this week (M-Fri only) and also next week (again M-Fri), too.

Fogo de Chao, Troy, MI

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Eating out and attending events. Last weekend, my boyfriend's mom threw his dad a surprise 60th birthday party at Pia's, in Taylor, which has very tasty pizza, and that Sunday we went to Malek Al Kabob for sandwiches too (those + their homemade bread are so good). Also on Sunday, I went to (another!) blogger event for Fogo de Chao, which you can read about here, and on Tuesday, I went to Bad Brad's BBQ, in Orion Twp. (Lake Orion area) to take advantage of their "half off on Tuesdays" deal. Today, some Yelp friends and I are headed to Mad Hatter Bistro for dinner, as part of Birmingham Restaurant Week ($30 three-course dinner options, or $15 for lunch).

Also, on Tuesday, I attended a blogger event for Hudsonville ice cream, which took place at Mootown Ice Cream, in Detroit (Eastern Market area). Hudsonville has some very tasty flavors, and we also got to try a few new ones that aren't out in stores yet.
  2. Getting better, kind of? My cough from the past few weeks is thankfully gone, but I still have a stuffy nose. My doctor put me on Flonase, but it will take 7-10 days to take effect ... so I'm still carrying around Kleenex for now.
  3. Booking travel. My boyfriend and I decided on an Airbnb in Indianapolis to book, for when we're there for the Indiana Comic Con, and it looks quite nice and has great reviews. When you're a new Airbnb user you get $40 off, too, so we signed him up and took advantage of that.
  4. Seeing movies, per usual. Last Friday, I saw Den of Thieves, which I'd give 4 out of 5 stars - I really liked it, and there's an interesting twist at the end. On Saturday, I took myself to Emagine Royal Oak to see the new Maze Runner, which was okay (3 out of 5 stars from me - the first one continues to be my favorite in the series), and on Sunday, we saw Proud Mary, which is skippable, unfortunately - I'd give it 2.5/5 stars.

I also saw a very early screening of Love, Simon on Wednesday, and although I can't give you a rating (it's not out until March 16th), I liked it a lot. The book that it's based off of is called Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and I read it recently, so I was hoping the movie would be as good as the book was. This weekend, I'm finally going to go see Call Me By Your Name, at Main Art, which is the only one of the nine Best Picture nominees (Oscars) that I haven't yet seen.
  5. Getting back into zumba. I was able to do zumba on Monday and Thursday. I usually go on Saturday morning, too, but I'm seeing a screening of Peter Rabbit, which looks cute - check back soon for my review.
Hudsonville ice cream - very tasty!
