The Friday Five, 11/1/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has seemed super, super long, so I'm glad it's the weekend, although no time to relax ... this is my Canadian weekend, because I'm going to Stratford (Ontario) with friends tomorrow to see Little Shop of Horrors, and then Caesars Windsor on Sunday to see Jim Gaffigan, which I'm super excited for; he's my favorite comic.

Wednesday Addams, Halloween
Me as Wednesday Addams!

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Seeing movies. I saw an extremely odd movie called The Lighthouse last Friday, which everyone (both critics and moviegoers) seemed to like, according to Rotten Tomatoes. I wouldn't be surprised to see Willem Dafoe and/or Robert Pattinson get nominations for it, because their acting was very strong, but it was not for me; I'd give it 2.5/5 stars, though my boyfriend gave it 4.5/5. I was going to see Harriet last night on Halloween but I was tired and the weather was crappy, so I skipped it. Tonight we are going to see Black and Blue, I had to miss the screening since I wasn't feeling well.
  2. Halloween parties. Last Saturday night, a coworker hosted a party at her house, and I went as Wednesday Addams and my boyfriend went as Freddy Krueger. On Wednesday at work, the art department had a "snackluck," as I dubbed it (mostly just snack and no entrees, though someone did bring in pizza which was a nice surprise).
  3. Royal Oak Restaurant Week. My boyfriend and I met up with two Yelp friends at the Rock on Third, on Saturday for lunch. They do a great RORW deal: $15 for a 3-course meal, including a salad, ribs or pasta, and chocolate cake or cheesecake. I've been before for RORW and the ribs are always delicious.
  4. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, at the Fox. I had forgotten that Lily Tomlin is actually from here, and turns out she went to Cass Tech. I did feel like Fonda tried to dominate the conversation a bit (although there was a moderator: Mitch Albom) but overall I enjoyed the show. We went to Frita Batidas (the new Detroit location) before the show for dinner, too.
  5. Colonoscopy and colonoscopy prep. Both were unpleasant and they had to stick the IV into my HAND, so now I have two (it took them two attempts) very large bruises on my hand this week. And that's all I'll say about that.
