Instead of going out to the theater, I sometimes stay at home and watch DVDs, either with friends or family or solo. It's hard to find a good snack to eat while watching said DVDs, and popcorn can sometimes be either high-calorie or too messy.

When I was in Chicago for a conference last week, I was invited by Yasso to attend a "Yoga in the Park" (Millennium Park) event. As much as I love the Millennium Park area, the event started at 7am (I don't usually wake up until 8am or so) and it was on the first day of the conference, too, so I politely declined. However, I'm very glad I got that email, because it then led to this post: movie night with Yasso!

Here's a thing you may not know about me: I love sweets. And when I say I love sweets, I mean I would eat them 24/7 if I could. The same goes for ice cream, but there's a problem with eating ice cream 24/7: first, brain freeze (duh) but second, it's not very healthy. In fact, I don't usually keep containers of ice cream in my apartment because I usually eat way more than a serving of it.

The nice thing about Yasso bars, though, is that they taste like ice cream - like frozen yogurt - and each bar is only 80 calories. When I read that they were only 80 each, I figured they must be tiny, like little mini bars, but they're not, as you can see in the picture here: they're NORMAL SIZED (whoa!).

I tried out the Raspberry bars, but I also bought Coconut, and they also come in Mango, Strawberry, Vanilla Bean, and Blueberry.

Some other interesting facts about Yasso's bars:

  • They are gluten-free and do not contain artificial sweeteners
  • Only natural ingredients are used
  • They are certified Kosher
  • They're made with rBST-free milk
  • Each bar contains at least 6g of protein

0g of fat and only 80 calories is what I like to see!

At this point you might be wondering an important thing, too: how do they taste? The raspberry bar I tried tasted pretty good. I've tried Healthy Choice's frozen Greek yogurt as well, but I'll admit that I like Yasso's a little bit better - the flavor was better and no spoon was needed like with HC's.

So the next time you're planning on staying home with a DVD, make sure you check out Yasso's frozen Greek yogurt bars at the grocery store first! I bought mine at Kroger but they can also be found at other stores like Sam's Club and Publix - check the full list on their website to find them in your area.
