What I'm watching on TV this summer #XFINITYreviewer
I stumbled upon this article on Buzzfeed yesterday, and it reminded me that summer TV season is around the corner. While I don't often "channel surf," I have a lot of shows that I watch in general, and summer TV is no exception. This year I also have the full line-up of XFINITY channels at my disposal, which should make for some interesting shows.
Shows that I plan on watching, and why:
Friday, June 12th
Orange is the New Black (eps launch around 3am, Netflix). I pretty much signed up for Netflix just for this show ... I canceled my subscription at one point and then planned on re-signing up again, just for this show (but luckily I have a boyfriend who has Netflix and added me to his account!). I've also read the book, but the TV show is much juicier, in my opinion, and the casting is spot-on. Although I tend not to binge-watch Netflix shows, I may make an exception for this one, because I've been waiting about a year for the show to come back.
Thursday, June 18th
The Astronaut Wives Club (8pm, ABC). This is a new show that I am going to try out, as the title has me intrigued. It's based on the book of the same name, and ABC describes it as:
Mistresses (9pm, ABC). Even though Savi (Alyssa Milano) has now left the show, it's still my summer "guilty pleasure" show - it has more twists and turns than a soap opera, and the characters in it are great.
Thursday, June 25
Rookie Blue (10pm, ABC). The "will they or won't they" relationship between Sam Swarek and Andy McNally is my favorite on this show - they're the "Ross and Rachel" of the show - and even though I sometimes forget about this show during the year, once the summer rolls around I'm sucked right back into it again. I'm a huge fan of police shows, too, and this is a great one that you might not have heard of. (if you want to know more, check out The Impossible Girl blog's gushings about the show, too)

A new television drama series based on the book by Lily Koppel, The Astronaut Wives Club focuses on seven women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history. As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, the lives of their young wives were transformed, seemingly overnight, from military spouses to American royalty. As their celebrity rose, and tragedy began to touch their lives, they rallied together.I also like historical shows that are based on real-life events, so this one sounds like it might be a winner for me.

Other shows I may watch:
- True Detective (Sun. 6/21, 9pm, HBO). My issue with this is that even though I have season 1 on Blu-ray, I've only watched 1 episode of it (shame on me, I know) ... it was super slow and although I've been told the season gets better once you get more into it, the slowness of that ep has deterred me from watching the others. I still have about a month before TD season 2 starts, though, and its fantastic cast (Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, etc.) may propel me to finish season 1.
- Graceland (Thurs. 6/25, 10pm, ABC). I used to watch this show, and it was a great police show, but I kind of lost interest throughout the years. May be worth picking up again.
- Dreamworks Dragons (Fri. 6/26, approx. 3am, Netflix). I had no idea they were making a TV show out of the How To Train Your Dragon franchise until I read the Buzzfeed article. I liked the movies so this may be worth watching.
- Penn and Teller: Fool Us (Mon. 7/26, 8pm, The CW). I saw their show in Vegas and it was a lot of fun, so I imagine their TV show would be the same.
What are some of your favorite summer TV shows to watch? Are there any new ones you'll be tuning in for this year?
