I live about forty minutes away from my parents', though it's more like an hour in traffic. We both live in the metro Detroit suburbs, and I usually do see them for movie screenings, but sometimes I miss having one-on-one time with them.

I decided to treat myself to a Coke, and make a REESE'S Peanut Butter Cups treat for them, so that we could have a movie night at their place. My mom makes the best REESE'S Cups ice cream pie but we usually only have it once a year, on Thanksgiving; I figured it might make for a cool summer treat, so I headed to Walmart to pick up some supplies.

You can now find a variety of names on Coke bottles as part of their Share a Coke campaign, and I was able to find my own name, which was fun. You can find these special Coke products in the coolers near checkout, at most Walmart locations, and can even check online beforehand to see if Coke has your name available. Walmart had the widest and most organized selection of Coke 20 oz. personalized bottles, so it's a good place to check first.

REESE'S Cups is doing a fun new thing now too where there's messaging on the cups. I picked up a My Fave one for my mom, who IS one of my faves, and a 2FUNNY one for my dad, who has a great sense of humor. Walmart is actually the only place you can find these new REESE'S Cups with messaging, so keep a lookout for them when you're near the checkout area.

I decided to make the pie at my parents' place because, well, I need more kitchen utensils I don't have a pie cutter at my apartment. The pie is super easy to make, which is good because although I'm a budding cook, I'm better with cooking entrees than desserts.

(I'm laughing here because my mom was saying something funny.
Perhaps I should have bought the 2FUNNY REESE'S Cups for her instead of my dad!)

REESE'S Peanut Butter Cups Ice Cream Pie

  • 12+ individual (regular-sized) REESE'S Cups
  • 1/2 gallon of Vanilla ice cream - we like to use Breyers Natural Vanilla
  • Graham cracker pie crust - store-bought is fine

1. Take the ice cream out of the freezer to sit for a few minutes - it needs to soften before you can put it in the pie.
2. Take the REESE'S Cups out of their individual packages and put in large bowl.
3. Add the vanilla ice cream. Stir and mash together until the REESE'S Cups are well mashed into the vanilla ice cream (and are broken to about 1/4 of their original size).
4. Add the mixture into the pie crust and spread evenly.
5. For best results, put pie in freezer for 1-2 hours.

It was nice to not have to wait until Thanksgiving this year to enjoy this pie, and it was also nice to share the pie with my parents and be able to see them on a weekday.
