Movie Review: Miss You Already

As you can probably tell from its trailer, Miss You Already is a "chick flick" - but it's one that has some great actors in it, and also one that's more about living and dying than simply "getting the guy."

Jess (Drew Barrymore) and Milly (Toni Collette) have been inseparable since Jess, an American, moved to England with her family at a young age. They've been there for each other's best and worst moments; Jess was there when Milly found out she was pregnant for the first time, and conversely, Milly has been there for Jess while Jess has been trying to get pregnant. Jess and her husband, Jado (Paddy Considine), decide to try IVF, and Jess finally, after all these years, becomes pregnant; at the same time, however, Milly has just received the worst news of her life: she has breast cancer, and may, down the road, have to get a mastectomy.

I love most of Barrymore's movies, and this one was no exception, although it's actually Collette that steals the show here; Barrymore's character is fine, but a little bland at times. Other supporting actors included Dominic Cooper as Collette's husband - and Collette looks a lot older than him, at times, but in real life they're only six years apart - as well as Jacqueline Bisset as Collette's mother, a former TV soap actress.

Yes, see this movie, and bring tissues, as you may have already suspected. The scenery in the film is beautiful as well - it takes place in/around London, for most of it, but there's a scene where Barrymore and Collette go to the moors, too, and start quoting Wuthering Heights, which was amusing. This movie was a nice balance of humor and sadness, actually, and because of that, I'd recommend it for any audience; fans of Barrymore, Collette, or Cooper will especially enjoy this film.

Miss You Already is in theaters today, November 6th, and is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 112 minutes. 3.5 stars out of 5.
