The Friday Five, 6/8/18: 5 things I've been up to this week

Last weekend, I went to Ann Arbor for 3 days for the Cinetopia Film Fest - I saw so many movies that it felt like a week! (I saw 11, technically 10.5 movies that weekend, as well as 1 more Cinetopia movie this week, in Dearborn)

This weekend, I'm here until Saturday night, then I head to JFK (New York) that night and later to Israel, for Birthright, the next day.

(related: there will be no Friday Five the next week. First week skipping it, but I'm not bringing my computer with me to Israel. The Friday Five will resume on 6/22!)

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Visiting Ann Arbor for Cinetopia. I drove in on Thursday for the opening night movie (Eighth Grade, with an appearance by the director, Bo Burnham) and reception. I drove to the Farmington area on Friday AM for a doctor's appointment and to see my parents, then I drove BACK to Ann Arbor on Friday, and stayed at the Red Roof PLUS+ near North Campus from Friday to Sunday. I technically saw 11 movies, but one I left early to get to another one, so let's say 10.5. On Wednesday, I went to the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn for one last Cinetopia movie, as well.
  2. Packing for Israel. I will have about 8 hours in NY (the JFK airport area) on Saturday night, and I have an Airbnb booked for that, and then on Sunday I have a direct flight from JFK to Tel Aviv. I've never been to Israel before so I'm looking forward to it.
  3. Eating out in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is one of my favorite cities, and Destination Ann Arbor was kind enough to provide me with a $50 Zingerman's gift card, so I was able to try out Miss Kim's, for the first time, and also treat my boyfriend and I to Zingerman's—I have been there before but it's been a while, maybe even 10 years or so, and it was his first time there. Zingerman's is not inexpensive (it was about $33 for our meal) but we both ordered full-size sandwiches, and got a latke (potato pancake) too. Very tasty. Miss Kim's was tasty as well, and now I'd like to go back and try more of their menu.
  4. Trying a new restaurant. A friend and I tried Jiti's Indian Fusion Food on Monday for lunch and it was pretty good. I'm a big fan of Indian food and this is kind of like Subway but with Indian food (you pick your bread, meat, and toppings). If you're on Yelp, make sure to check in on the app when you get there, too, to redeem a free samosa.
  5. Seeing non-Cinetopia movies. A MoviePass friend and I (we both have MoviePass) went to MJR Troy on Tuesday to see Adrift, which was very good - I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. It's based on a true story, as well. Tomorrow, my boyfriend and I plan on seeing Ocean's 8, and I have high hopes for it ... I'm a big fan of the "original" Ocean's movies.
