The Friday Five, 6/14/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

I'm writing this from Rhode Island this week, as I'm here visiting family. Later today I'm going to Massachusetts to visit the other side of my family, as well, and also see a Birthright friend who conveniently lives about 1/4 of a mile from my aunt and uncle's house.

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Eating out. Probably a bit too much, but oh well. Last Saturday I went to Jersey Mike's between movies, and on Sunday I had book club and Ann Arbor Restaurant Week; we went to the new Sedona Taphouse at 12 Oaks Mall (Novi) for book club, and rel-ish, at the Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor, for A2RW. I had actually just stayed at the Kensington a few weeks prior, for Cinetopia, but hadn't had time to eat at their restaurant on that trip. On Tuesday, I went to 2941 Street Food with a friend, before Anastasia at the Fisher, and so far during my RI trip I've been to Matunuck Oyster Bar and an Indian restaurant called Rasa, both of which were tasty.
  2. Traveling. I'm in RI this week—we lived in MA until I was 5 years old, and my mom is from MA and my dad is from RI. 95% of our family still lives here, so I try to visit when I can. It will be nice to have a "relaxing" vacation for once instead of a "running around" one.
  3. Seeing movies. Last Friday I saw Booksmart, which I'd give 4/5, and then on Saturday we ATTEMPTED to do a double-header. We started off at AMC John R seeing Rocketman, but 20 minutes into the movie, the screen went black; I went to use the restroom, and apparently a lot of the other theater screens were having that issue too, so we ended up trekking to the AMC Forum instead. We saw Dark Phoenix first (the new X-Men movie), and although the Dolby format was very cool, I'd still only give it 3.5/5 stars. After that we saw Rocketman, which I'd give 4/5 stars.
  4. Seeing live theater. I saw Anastasia on Tuesday night at the Fisher, for opening night. I'd like to watch the film now, as I'm not sure if I've seen it before. There were a lot of children at the play but IMO it's not really a kids' show. You can read more about the play here.
  5. Catching up on summer TV. Big Little Lies is back on HBO as of this Sunday, and although they didn't really NEED a second season, IMO, I'm liking it, especially with the addition of Meryl Streep. Grown-ish is back too, which I usually watch on Hulu, and Younger, one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" TV shows, is back on TV Land.
