The Friday Five, 7/5/19: 5 things I've been up to this week
Another busy week, and I had yesterday off work + I have today off too, which has been nice.
What I've been up to this week:
Potato pancakes at Hazel, Ravines & Downtown (Birmingham, MI |
What I've been up to this week:
- Eating out ... perhaps too much. On Friday, a friend and I got Mr. Kabob sandwiches before a concert, and on Sunday, I had book club at Hazel, Ravines & Downtown, in Birmingham, and had delicious potato pancakes with sour cream and homemade applesauce. That night my parents and I did Pizza Hut takeout, too, to celebrate my dad's birthday. On Wednesday night, some friends and I went to Browndog Barlor, in Farmington, as well.
- Seeing Jimmy Eat World and Third Eye Blind in concert at Freedom Hill. A coworker friend of mine has been following the band since the late '90s, and the drummer hooked us up with tickets! We were row AA too which was awesome. Not going to lie, even though I don't know a TON of Jimmy + 3EB songs, I actually had more fun at that concert than the Hugh Jackman one last Monday, even though I enjoyed that one too.
- Seeing movies. I saw John Wick last Friday and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it - I'd give it 4/5 stars. I saw Yesterday on Sunday with my parents and would give that 4/5 as well. On Tuesday night, I ended up losing my power from about 8pm to 4:30am, and another friend was out of power as well, so I saw Toy Story 4 for the second time; I stand by my 3.5/5 rating, but I think I enjoyed it more this time vs. the first time I saw it.
- Getting a mani/pedi. A friend and I went to Elevate on Monday, in Royal Oak, for a manicure and pedicure. I haven't had either of those in a really long time. It's a school, similar to Aveda/Douglas J, and they did a decent job, but we were there for 2.5 hours, which was really long. Also, I got a gel manicure, which originally looked fine, but yesterday the ENTIRE polish on one of my fingers came off! I gave them 4/5 stars on Yelp but to me that knocks it down to 3 out of 5 stars.
- Losing my electricity. On Tuesday, the power went out at 8pm, and OF COURSE I was cooking ... I feel like I always am when this happens, grr. I was lucky in that my meal was almost finished (a Hello Fresh chicken quesadilla), but unlucky in that I then had to throw out the second portion. The only things I threw out from my fridge were some meat sticks, which were old-ish anyways, and butter, although later a friend said butter would have been fine. Apparently a fridge will stay cool for about 4 hours (possibly more) and a freezer is good for up to 48 hours, provided you don't open either; however, I had just received a Dinnerly delivery that day, so I grabbed the meats and cheeses that came with it and put them under the Dinnerly-provided ice packs, which were still in the box. Otherwise I might have had to throw those out, too.
