The Friday Five, 8/30/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

I didn't have a ton of plans, per say, this week, so I was able to squeeze in a few movies. I'll be in Grand Haven with friends this weekend, which is a girls' trip that I look forward to every year.

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Traveling. Last Friday through Sunday, I went to Traverse City with a group of three friends. I had been there before but a long time ago, I think like 2001 or 2002 with my parents, so other than Moomers I didn't remember most of it. We ate and drank (wine ... a lot, lol) and it was a lot of fun. We rented an Airbnb house, too, which ended up being super nice and also close to downtown TC.
  2. Seeing movies, of course. On Tuesday, I saw Ready or Not, which was surprisingly funny for a horror movie, and I'd give it 4/5 stars. Yesterday, I saw Blinded by the Light, which was a cute coming-of-age movie but also veryyyyyyy slow ... I'd give it maybe 3.5/5 stars.
  3. Seeing Rob Thomas, at Meadow Brook. I'm not a mega fan of his but when I heard that his 6/1 show had been rescheduled to 8/29 due to lightning and rain the day of, I had my boyfriend go down to LCA and get tickets for us (fee-free, yay). We were able to sit pavilion this time (thank goodness, after the DSO/Queen lawn stuff ...) and he put on a great concert. We did leave a little early to beat the traffic, and also because my boyfriend works early hours (6am), but I was overall impressed by Rob Thomas's performance.
  4. Attending work events, both virtual and IRL. On Tuesday, I went to the Staubli offices in Novi, MI, to learn about their robots, and on Thursday, Barry Callebaut was doing a virtual (online) event for journalists about their new Natural Dark cocoa powder. They had shipped us samples of baked goods (muffins/brownies) made with the new powder, so I ended up eating muffins and brownies at like 10am at work that day.
  5. Cooking. I still had two more EveryPlate meals to cook this week, and they were both tasty - carne asada tacos, and a herb-butter steak dinner. I'm not doing meal delivery services next week and I didn't this week, either (get a new box, I mean) because I have no time ... my next one will be Hello Fresh, in a few weeks.
