The Friday Five, 11/29/19: 5 things I've been up to this week

I had yesterday off work for the holiday and I have today off too, which is nice. I plan on doing a double header for movies today—I'm going to see The Good Liar at AMC Livonia using A-List, then my parents and I will see 21 Bridges at Emagine Novi later.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Seeing movies. Putting my A-List membership to the max! I saw Knives Out at an early AMC showing last Friday, and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be ... one reviewer friend gave it an A+. I would give it 3.5/5 stars. I saw Frozen 2 in 3D on Sunday and I'd give that one 3.5/5 as well, it was cute but the songs were not as memorable as the first one. I do highly recommend seeing it in 3D though—the cinematography was gorgeous. On Wednesday, I finished up my work early so I caught a showing of Queen & Slim, which was excellent, albeit very sad ... I'd give that one 4 out of 5 stars. Daniel Kaluuya (who was also fabulous in Get Out) and Jodie Turner-Smith were both great in it.
  2. Joining a wholesale club. On Saturday, my boyfriend and I went to the new BJ's Wholesale, in Madison Heights, to check it out—you don't need a membership card to browse, only to purchase. I ended up joining, because they were doing a great deal—$55 for the year, but I got a $35 BJ's Wholesale gift card, so essentially it only cost me $20. Since then, I've been back two times (!), and they gave me some great newbie deals too. Gas was only $2.19 there this week and I paid $1.99, I assume some sort of newbie discount? IDK but I'm not questioning it, haha! I anticipate that I'll mostly be buying shelf-stable or frozen items there, along with TP and gas.
  3. Going to a murder-mystery party. My friends like to host these every few months, and this time the theme was a reality-TV show, in 2003, where the host had just gotten "murdered." It's always a fun time and people have fun getting into their characters, too.
  4. Eating out. Last Friday, we went to Jersey Mike's before seeing Knives Out, and they hooked us up with some BOGO coupons too! That location (Troy) is my favorite. On Saturday, we grabbed a quick dinner at Del Taco before the murder-mystery party. And on Sunday, I used my Chicken Shack Groupon (still available! click here) to get some chicken bites, fried mushrooms, and onion rings (so basically, a carbfest for me, lol ...), which was decent.
  5. Cooking. I had a Hello Fresh box to cook, and I made a BBQ pineapple flatbread (see pic above); chimichurri pork tenderloin, which was delicious (I LOVE anything with chimichurri); and some teriyaki chicken tacos. I am receiving an Every Plate box this week and Blue Apron the week after that, then I'm going to take a break from those for a week or two during the holidays.
