The Friday Five, 1/3/20: 5 things I've been up to this week

This is the first Friday Five of 2020! It feels weird to say "2020" ... I kind of feel like the '90s were 10 years ago. Guess not.

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Eating out. I had the last week off of work and mostly stayed with my parents, aside from a quick jaunt home one day, and we ate out quite a bit. Last Friday, though, my boyfriend took me to Hearth 71, the new restaurant in the RenCen (where Coach Insignia used to be), for my Christmas present, and it was pretty tasty. On Saturday, my parents and I went to Noodles & Co. for dinner, and on Sunday I was visiting friends who have a baby so we did delivery; I got Siam Spicy (Thai food) from Novi. On Monday, my parents and I had a Sedona Taphouse gift card so we did their $7 steak special (my dad and I did, my mom got their $5 happy hour pizza), among other food, and yesterday my boyfriend and I went to Social Kitchen, in Birmingham, before Cirque du Soleil at Little Caesars Arena.
  2. Two LCA events. Last Saturday, my mom and I went to Little Caesars Arena for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert, which is always fabulous, although they put on a different show this year; I have been attending their concerts since 2014, when they were at the Palace, originally. I didn't think I'd be able to see Cirque du Soleil: Axel this year, but a friend had won tickets last-minute and couldn't use them, so yesterday my boyfriend and I went to see it. The Detroit-area Cirque shows are never Vegas-quality, but I liked this one a lot, and it's very prety.
  3. New Year's Eve party with friends. A friend of mine hosted a "champagne and pajamas" party, where we all showed up wearing PJs, and it was very low-key. She also lives down the street from me, which was nice. We left around 11pm because my boyfriend had to work the next day, though.
  4. Watching UM lose to Alabama in the Citrus Bowl. I guess the good news is that it wasn't a complete blowout? I had a feeling it would happen but per usual, UM got my hopes up in the beginning ... it was 16-14 at halftime, I believe, but the final score was 35-16, Alabama.
  5. Switching wireless companies. I've been with Verizon for FOREVER, but later today I am going to be switching the SIM card in my phone to Xfinity Mobile. There are a few reasons for the switch but the main one was that right now, my parents and I split 6GB of data per month, and even with me being on WiFi 75% of the time, I hate constantly having to watch my data. I signed up for a plan through Xfinity Mobile where I get unlimited data for $45/month + taxes, so I'm going to try them out; they use Verizon towers so I'm hoping I won't see much of a difference in phone service.
