Movie review and digital code giveaway: Wendy {ends 4/26}
*Disclosure: I received a digital copy of this movie for reviewing purposes. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own.
I was excited to recently receive a digital review copy of Wendy, which is headed straight to digital during this pandemic; I had seen the trailer a while back and it looked like an interesting new interpretation of Peter Pan. Wendy wasn't entirely what I expected, but was more of a coming-of-age story.
IMDb synopsis: Lost on a mysterious island where aging and time have come unglued, Wendy must fight to save her family, her freedom, and the joyous spirit of youth from the deadly peril of growing up.
I feel like the title is kind of misleading here; The Lost Boys would have been more appropriate, since it wasn't entirely Wendy's story. It basically follows her and her group as they go to a "mysterious island" (aka Neverland), where kids don't grow up; except some kids DO grow up, as we find out later, since we meet some "pirates," one of whom is named James (aka Captain James Hook).
Hook is one of my all-time favorite movies, and this film definitely took a different approach to the Peter Pan story. That being said, I enjoyed it for what it was; it wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it passed the time. The music in the movie is great, as well, and it was an interesting spin on the Peter Pan classic.
I give Wendy 3 stars out of 5. Like I said, it passed the time—since it was digital, I was able to watch it during an infusion appointment that I had, on my iPad—but it's not one I need to see a second time. However, if you are fan of coming of age movies, and/or the Peter Pan story in general, most likely you will enjoy this movie.
