The Friday Five, 12/11/20: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has seemed SUPER long for some reason, so I'm glad it's Friday. I plan on walking later (it's going to be 46 out, heat wave! lol ...) and also using an Uber Eats credit to get some Indian food from Main Street Kitchen in Clawson. Uber Eats gave me $10 off after last week, when I ordered Thai food from Bangkok Cuisine (Sterling Heights) specifically because they had (mango?) sticky rice, then it turned out they never even had it on the menu. (FWP, I know, but I was sad ...)

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Getting takeout/delivery. Maybe a little too much. Last Friday, as mentioned above, I ordered Bangkok Cuisine, Sterling Heights, from Uber Eats, because I had a $20 gift card from myVegas. I ordered sticky rice (hoping it was mango sticky rice, but not sure), cashew beef, and a Thai iced tea. The cashew beef and Thai iced tea were delicious, but no sticky rice showed up. I called the restaurant and they said they don't even have it right now, which was disappointing, so then I messaged Uber Eats for a refund on that part of my order. Related, if you know any good Thai places in metro Detroit with mango sticky rice, comment below ... the only place I know of is Detroit Shipping Company (Bangkok 96 stall) but I haven't been there in a while.
On Saturday, my parents and I got Outback takeout (also with myVegas gift cards), and on Monday, I ordered Wingstop delivery—I had $15 in gift cards and they were offering free delivery with $15+ purchase, plus free fries. I got three garlic parmesan "classic" (bone-in) wings, seven Hickory BBQ Classic wings, mini corn on the cob with fry seasoning (see below), and fries with parmesan. I usually prefer boneless wings but for some reason I like their classic wings better. Their corn on the cob, especially with the fry seasoning, is VERY good, too, as are the fries with parmesan.
  2. Watching movies and TV shows. Last weekend my parents and I watched Godmothered, a new movie on Disney+, and it was cute and had a good cast (Jillian Bell and Isla Fisher). This week I also saw that Hulu has The Wonder Years and I started rewatching it—I have a vague memory of watching it with my grandma at her condo a long time ago, and I think at some point I probably watched the whole series, but it's such a good show. Yesterday I watched more of The Flight Attendant, and I have one new episode today to watch too, and I've also been watching Hulu's A Teacher, season 5 of Married at First Sight on Hulu (and apparently Anthony is from Shelby Twp., MI?! Never knew that!), and Dawson's Creek on Netflix.
  3. Refinancing my mortgage. Aka adulting. Rates are super low right now—my current mortgage has PMI and a 3.875% interest rate, so most likely I will be changing to another 30-year mortgage, but with NO PMI and a 2.875% interest rate. It will save me about $170 per month which will be great.
  4. Wrangling with U of M. ... and I shall be spending that extra $170/mo. on medical bills :( got the bills in from my November colonoscopy + throat scope and they are probably going to be about $1800-2000. Which is better than the $3000 I was initially quoted ... but things are still shaking out, so we'll have to see. And I get to do it ALL OVER AGAIN in May, minus the throat scope ... and I just found out I have to do a THREE DAY PREP instead of a two day one. It's going to be pretty bad but I'm not going to think about it until like ... April.
  5. "Attending" a virtual screening of Songbird. Is it wise to make a movie ABOUT a pandemic while we are in the midst of one, Michael Bay? Probably not but it was still entertaining. The movie takes place during COVID-23 and the U.S. has been locked down for FOUR YEARS (see? Things could be worse ...). The plot had all sorts of holes but I'd still give it like 3.5/5 stars.
