I was able to screen Tyson's Run at home last week before it hits theaters this Friday, March 11th.

Have you ever found yourself trying to get the approval of a parent? If not, you likely know someone who has. That’s where Tyson, a teen with autism, finds himself as he watches his hero father lead the high school football team.

About the film:
When fifteen-year-old Tyson attends public school for the first time, his life is changed forever. While helping his father clean up after the football team, Tyson befriends champion marathon runner Aklilu. Never letting his autism hold him back, Tyson becomes determined to run his first marathon in hopes of winning his father's approval.

Tyson has autism and has been homeschooled for all of his life. However, he wants to try out regular public high school, and his dad is the football coach there as well. Because of his autism, his mannerisms are sometimes misinterpreted by the other students, but soon he is able to make friends. He also befriends Aklilu, a champion runner, and decides that he wants to try training for his first marathon, although his father isn't sure that he'll be able to, since a marathon is such a long athletic event.

Overall I enjoyed this movie. It has a lot of good family-friendly themes in it, and Tyson is a character you want to root for. It does have Christian themes in it, but they aren't pushed onto the audience. The cast was good as well—you may recognize Barkhad Abdi, as Aklilu, from Captain Phillips; Amy Smart, as Tyson's mom, from The Butterfly Effect; and Rory Cochrane, as Tyson's dad, from CSI: Miami

Rating: 3/5 stars.
