The Friday Five, 8/9/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

August is chugging along at a rapid pace. I'm glad it's Friday; tomorrow I'm having a local (one-night) bachelorette party with my bridesmaids and MOH, since only one of them got to go to my Traverse City bachelorette, which should be fun. My MOH has been living in Taiwan for the past year, too, so I haven't seen her in a bit!

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Seeing Shrek the Musical at the Fisher. On Friday night—unusual for the theater, for me!—my mom and I headed downtown to the Fisher Building, to see Shrek the Musical. I didn't think I had seen it before, but I have a program from 2014 or 2015, I believe, also in Detroit, so apparently I saw it 9 or 10 years ago. It was cute although I do enjoy the movies more. It was only here for two days (Friday through Sunday), also.
  2. Seeing movies. I saw It Ends with Us in the theater yesterday, and thought it was really good. I just read the book, by Colleen Hoover, and also its sequel, It Starts With Us, last week; after I finished the first book, I was able to grab an e-copy of the sequel and start reading it immediately (this is why 2024 technology is awesome sometimes). I would give it maybe 4/5 or 4.5/5 stars, and you can read my mini-review on Twitter here. Tonight I am hoping to see Trap, the new M. Night Shyamalan movie, at the theater, as well. 
  3. Dining out. On Friday night, my mom and I went to Jersey Mike's before seeing Shrek downtown. On Sunday, I met up with the ladies who are in the same group chat as me—one lives in Ohio, and I met her IRL for the first time a few weeks ago, at her baby shower, and the other is in Texas, so this was my first time meeting her. My friend Margarita started the group chat a few years ago, I want to say in 2019 or 2020, and we mostly chat about movies and TV shows. Yesterday, I stopped by Starbucks to get a sandwich for lunch, since I was working at my company's office, in Birmingham, and also stopped at Paris Baguette (see pic below); they gave me a very generous gift card a while back, since we wrote about them for work, and I still have some money left on it. Tonight I plan on getting Pink Garlic takeout for us too, always tasty on a Friday. 
  4. Watching TV shows. Love is Blind UK just premiered on Netflix this week, and so far it's pretty good. I'm behind on Lady in the Lake, on AppleTV+, and I also have one more episode of Time Bandits, also on AppleTV+, to watch. My fiance and I have been watching Sunny on that platform too, and that's also been interesting. We finished up Manhunt, also on the same platform, which I'd recommend, especially if you're interested in history; it details the 12 days between when John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln, and when they actually found him. 
  5. Cooking. We had HelloFresh this week, and cooked some tasty meals on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night. I didn't want to order a box next week but unfortunately I forgot to skip an EveryPlate account, so we will be getting three meals from them, and I will have to find time to cook.
