This was another busy week, and today I am working at our Birmingham office—we are required to go in once a month, which isn't bad at all (generally I work from home), but it's getting harder for me to walk around and shlep stuff (laptop bag).

What I've been up to this week:
- In-laws visiting. My mother-in-law came up from Indiana about two weeks ago now, on a Saturday, and stayed until this past Monday (so, about a week), and my FIL and SIL came in on Thursday night. It was nice to see everyone (they live in Indiana) and my MIL helped out a lot with my move, too (see below).
- Closing on my condo. A bittersweet thing for sure; I owned it for almost nine years, it looks like I closed on it on September 8, 2016. I had never bought and sold a home before, and the closing took longer than I expected (the actual sit-down, I mean; about 1 hour and 15 minutes) but the new buyer seemed very sweet, and is excited to live there, so that helped. The weirdest thing now for me is to only have two keys on my keychain, besides my car keys (my house keys, plus a key to my parents' house ... previously I had my condo front door key + a key to the storm door). It'll be a bit of an adjustment not to have the condo when I'm in the area but it also didn't make sense to pay for what was essentially a very expensive storage unit for my furniture.
- Baby shower. On Saturday, my MIL and MOH from my wedding (one of my good friends) hosted a baby shower for us. Originally it was going to be at our house, but the weather looked iffy, so it was moved to the activities room at the Novi Public Library, which my MOH had hosted her birthday party at a few weeks prior. It was a good time, and we had a ton of food and cake, so hopefully everyone had fun. We didn't open presents there, for a few reasons (the first one being, as a guest to these types of events, I always think it's awkward / a bit tacky to sit there, the second one being we didn't have time anyways ...) but we opened them the next day with my in-laws.
- Visiting John K. King Books for the first time. On Friday, I took the day off from work, and one of my Chicago friends who came to town for the baby shower and I had a full day. We started our day at John K. King Books, the original location in Detroit, and it was HUGE; it's about four floors of fully packed shelves. I got lost in the yearbooks section, because they had a few UM yearbooks from 1955 and 1950—fun to see pics of the students who lived in my dorm then!—and I ended up buying a rare coin for my husband (they have non-book things too), an old greeting card, a few kids/baby books, and a T-shirt (reasonably priced, at $15). We spent about 2-2.5 hours there and we could have spent more time, too, as it's massive, and easy to get lost in the stacks; it was definitely a treasure hunt, which was fun. For the rest of the day, we had lunch with my SIL at Buddy's, and then got a pedicure (me) and blowout (her) at a local salon, which was nice.
- Seeing movies. For Juneteenth, I was able to do a half-day of work yesterday (I worked till 2pm) and I was planning on seeing a 6:20pm movie, Elio, but I ended up doing a double-header at Emagine instead: Materialists at 4:20pm, then a quick bathroom + popcorn break, then Elio. I'm glad I did, because Materialists was fabulous—I'd give it 4.5/5, and Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans were all great in it (since when does Evans do indie/A24 films??)—and Elio was okay. It was a sweet movie but I didn't really care about the characters much, so I'd give it 2.5/5 or maybe 3/5 max, since it had some nice themes throughout ... but for a Disney/Pixar movie, I felt like it could've been better.
- Getting takeout/eating out. A bonus one (#6) this week. When my in-laws were here, we had The Great Greek takeout one day (my MIL and I; they were doing buy one gyro, get one for $3), plus Lefty's Cheesesteak takeout, although unfortunately the WB location has closed so it was from Southfield, and Mexican food takeout from Alchile one day. On Friday, my friend and I went to Buddy's, as I mentioned, and on Sunday, for my final time at the condo (grabbing some random boxes/dish towels/etc.), we ate at Woodpile BBQ in Clawson. Woodpile is always good but I was annoyed they now have a 3% credit card fee (to use one). On Monday, my husband and I were contemplating going BACK to the condo, as I thought I left a smart bulb in one of the light fixtures, but then we found the bulb, so we ended up doing Culver's regardless (we were going to try out the new-ish Clawson one), just at the Commerce location. And on Wednesday, a friend and I did The Great Greek, because they were again doing BOGO gyros, before seeing The Wiz, at the Fisher, which was great; I need to see the movie now (1978), as I haven't, yet.
