The Friday Five, 7/18/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

This has been a busy week, and it has gone by fast. Yesterday we actually had some decent weather, too (like 77 and not ~90~ like it's been every day) and I think today will be the same.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Game night with friends. Last Friday, a friend and I drove to Ann Arbor to see another friend, and we had a game night, which was a lot of fun—we played Machi Koro 2, which I like but I think I like the original game better, and also UNO Show 'Em No Mercy. We also got takeout from Bigalora, in A2—they're running a takeout deal right now, I believe at all of their locations, where it's $60 for five pizzas, which may SOUND like a lot, but considering *one* pizza from them is $15-20, it's more like "buy three pizzas, get two free." For three people we did a pretty good job on the pizza, too, although we definitely had leftovers.
  2. Waitress musical/Yelp event. Last night, a friend and I went to Seaholm High School, in Birmingham, to see Waitress, put on by Michigan Stage, as part of a Yelp event. I hadn't been to an in-person Yelp event in a while, probably since January, so that was nice, and it was nice to see some other Yelp friends also. Waitress is also one of my favorite musicals—I would say that and The Phantom of the Opera are my top two favorites right now—and it did not disappoint. The show actually opens today, and tickets are $45-55, which isn't bad. I'm not sure if I had ever been to Seaholm before but I think I had for swim meets a long time ago (would have been circa 2001-2004); the auditorium is large and quite comfortable. Staying on theme, we all got to take home a slice of Achatz pie after the show, too, which was a nice perk.
  3. Dining out/getting takeout. Last Saturday, my husband and I took a virtual parenting class from 10am-12:30pm, so we ended up getting Doordash from Royal Thai, and then like I mentioned above, my friends and I got Bigalora for dinner that night. On Sunday, I saw my parents and we got Hungry Howie's takeout. Last night, a friend and I went to Granite City in Troy before Waitress, and they have fantastic happy hour deals—you can get a $6 margherita flatbread or their spinach dip any day, but on Thursday they have some extra $6 choices, too, so we split the spinach dip and a BBQ chicken flatbread ... for both of us it was like $8 before tip! Great pricing.
  4. Seeing F1: The Movie at the theater. On Wednesday night, I went to see F1: The Movie at Emagine Novi. It looked great, with a great cast, but I was a little hesitant to see it because of the runtime (about 2.5 hours) ... I would give it 4.5/5, overall it was a fantastic movie but yes, I definitely felt the runtime, even with a bathroom break midway. Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and the rest of the cast were excellent, though, and because of all the racing scenes it's definitely worth seeing at the theater, IMO.
  5. Lots of doctor appointments. All routine but so many this week. I had physical therapy on Tuesday, instead of Wednesday, because my usual PT lady is on vacation for a few weeks. I have been doing that since the early days of pregnancy, because I had some pain in my hips, and I like it because it seems to be helping. On Wednesday, I had to get my B12 shot (something I get monthly) and also do some bloodwork, which thankfully I was able to do at the same building, and then today I have an OB appointment, and I will have one every week now until the baby is born.
