The Friday Five, 10/17/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week has been very busy with friend visits—Baby K got to meet two of my friends, and four of my husband's friends (two couples), which was a lot of fun.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Meet and greets with Baby K. Last Friday, some friends of my husband came over and brought homemade carrot cake and garden tomatoes, which was very nice. On Sunday, more friends came over, one of whom was the Best Man in our wedding, and brought us some flowers and Blake's ciders. On Wednesday, one of my friends visited (actually, one of the bridesmaids from our wedding), and brought some Thai food from Ann Arbor/Ypsi—Basil Babe, so good—and some sleep sacks for Baby K. And on Thursday, another of my friends visited, and brought some Eagle Rare (made by Buffalo Trace) from her Louisville visit, for my husband and I, plus a lot of cute gifts for Baby K. In addition, this weekend my in-laws will be visiting, since my husband and I are attending a wedding tomorrow at the Henry Ford and needed a babysitter (plus they want to see Baby K, too).
  2. Getting takeout/delivery. On Friday this past week, we got Noori Doordash delivery, which is always delicious, although unfortunately we mistakenly ordered bone-in wings for my order, and I prefer the boneless ones (which are always huge!). I usually get the potstickers for my side, and they didn't have it listed, so I assumed they no longer were offering them; when I went on Noori's actual website, it said they were out of those that day, so I hope that's the case. On Saturday, I had some errands to do in Oak Park—I'm in a few Facebook free groups, and from one of them I was able to get two Ergobaby baby carriers, plus the necessary newborn insert—and after grabbing those, I got us Pink Garlic takeout, which was conveniently five minutes away. And on Wednesday, my friend who visited brought Basil Babe takeout, from Ypsilanti, which was delicious, although I will say the mango sticky rice was just okay; it was too sweet/tasted a little different from others I've had in this area. For my entree I got a peanut curry with chicken, though, and it was perfect. Tonight for dinner I am thinking about maybe using our Buddy's coupons with my in-laws or perhaps doing the BOGO deal at The Great Greek in WB.
  3. Watching TV shows. I watched the first episode of The Chair Company, on HBO, which was a weird one—I'd say more of a dark comedy, but perhaps drama. Tim Robinson, from a show called Detroiters that I liked, was in it, though, so I will give it a few episodes, because I really like him. Elsbeth (CBS/Paramount+) came back this week and was very good, and I still need to watch Matlock too. I'm now all caught up on Abbott Elementary, Love is Blind, Only Murders in the Building, Shifting Gears, Loot (new season this week, the first few episodes at least, which were hilarious), Chad Powers, and The Morning Show, and I'm about 3/4 done with this week's High Potential, which I watched this morning while pumping.
  4. Going to Belle Tire. Maybe not super exciting, but I appreciated the uninterrupted TV time on my iPad while waiting for my car to be serviced. I kept hearing a "clunk" noise every time I stepped on the brakes in my car, and it ended up being something very dumb on my part ... I had a can of de-icer there and I guess it was rolling around underneath my driver's seat. However, it was good I took the car in, because it needed new brake pads in the front, so $300 later I am good to go with those for a bit.
  5. Trying out the new Costco gas station. Also not super exciting, but I was happy about it, haha: the Commerce Twp. Costco has been building a new gas station for at least a few months now, and when I stopped by after Belle Tire yesterday (since my parents were watching Baby K for a bit), the new one was open! It's HUGE and very similar to the Madison Heights one, which I've visited before, except newer. There are red and green lights to show you which pumps are open, too, which is pretty cool.
