The Friday Five, 10/31/25: 5 things I've been up to this week
Happy Halloween! Last year we had *eight* trick-or-treaters, which was the record for us, LOL. In 2022 and 2023 I believe there were about five. We'll see what happens tonight. Today is also my second-to-last day of maternity leave, as Baby K starts daycare on Monday and I go back to the "office" (I primarily work from home) on Tuesday.

What I've been up to this week:
- Seeing Back to the Future: The Musical at the Detroit Opera House. On Wednesday, my husband and I ventured out to the Detroit Opera House to see Back to the Future: The Musical (huge shoutout to one of my friends for babysitting Baby K!), which was a lot of fun. I hadn't seen this one yet, and although the music isn't super remarkable, it's definitely worth seeing for the special effects/tech itself. A replica of the DeLorean was outside of the Opera House beforehand too, and we got a picture with it, which was great. The musical will be in town until Nov. 9 and you can read more at my post here.
- La-Z-Boy delivery. Last Friday, we got another La-Z-Boy delivered, as we wanted one downstairs for feeding Baby K. Same as last time, they showed up around 8:30am which was kinda brutal (Baby K sometimes doesn't fall asleep until 2am ...), but now we have a nice new chair for downstairs.
- Halloween get-together. On Sunday, a friend hosted a Halloween get-together at her condo in South Lyon. It ended up only being myself, her, her sister, and another friend, but it was fun to dress up and see everyone, as well as get out of the house. For a LONG time, like 2005-2019 or so, I always was the devil for Halloween; in 2005 (my freshman year at UM) I bought these devil horns at Village Apothecary (RIP; a pharmacy in Ann Arbor) and they lasted for about 14 years, until one of the horns broke, in 2019. For this I found a masquerade mask that I think I wore to Yelp Spring Break in 2016—San Antonio edition, and we had a masquerade ball—although I wanted to find a wizard cloak I had worn in 2021 or so.
- Daycare visit. Baby K will start daycare on Monday, since I go back to work on Tuesday, and we had another visit yesterday just to meet the teachers and take care of some final things. It's a cute place that isn't too far from our house, so that is good, but it's definitely going to be an adjustment at first.
- Watching TV shows/movies. I watched Maintenance Required, on Prime, this week, and it was cute but definitely a fluff movie; I would give it 3/5, but it's basically a ripoff of You've Got Mail, which now I want to rewatch, but apparently it's not streaming anywhere. (I have the DVD somewhere, though!)
For TV shows, I watched the Love is Blind reunion yesterday, and I've been binging the new season of Selling Sunset. I also have my usual shows, although I'm behind on Matlock. I watched the season finale of Only Murders in the Building, which was pretty good, as well as Elsbeth. I am giving up on The Chair Company, on HBO, after two episodes, as it was a little too zany for me, although I do love Tim Robinson ... he was great in a short-lived (two season) TV show on Comedy Central called Detroiters.
