The Friday Five, 11/14/25: 5 things I've been up to this week
This is a little later today because I am running on about three hours of sleep - Baby K has been sick for a few days, and is a bit better now, but because of that, her sleep schedule is all out of whack, it seems, which means her parents get no sleep either.
What I've been up to this week:
- Buying baby clothes. Baby K *really* does not need any more clothing—between what I bought her previously, plus a ton of hand-me-downs, she's set until at least she fits into 12 months size—but everything is so cute. I also get a little sad when she sizes out of onesies I really liked, but Carter's usually has patterns up to size 12M, sometimes even 24M, so I can repurchase them. There was one I really wanted and they only had up to size 6M online, but I was able to order it in the store ... so I visited the Farmington Hills location for the first time ever, and of course ended up buying MORE cute onesies, like the one pictured above. Some in the baby boy section are also super cute, like one with otters I found, so I bought a few of those, too.
- Having family visit. My husband's aunt and uncle, who live in Florida, came up last week to visit us, which was nice; they were here from Thursday through Monday. The last time I saw them was at our wedding (September 2024) so it was great to see them again—they also were able to help a lot with Baby K, and it was good to have extra hands since she wasn't sleeping much.
- Doing some gourmet grocery shopping. Originally, friends were going to visit us and my in-laws on Sunday, but they ended up being sick; before we knew that, however, my husband's aunt (my aunt-in-law?) and I went to Nino Salvaggio, in Bloomfield Township, to pick up some charcuterie and wine. I had been to Nino's before, to the Troy location and M59 location, but not sure if I had been to this location. We were also able to stop by Trader Joe's a few doors down, which was fun because I hadn't been to Trader's in a long time (I used to be a frequent shopper at that location and the Royal Oak one). I got a bunch of frozen things, including a chicken shawarma bowl which looks good, and some greeting cards, too.
- Caring for a sick baby. Baby K went to daycare for four days last week—we kept her out on Friday since we wanted her to visit with family—and then she had a fever and a stuffy nose over the weekend. We kept her out of daycare on Monday and Tuesday too, even though her fever went away Sunday, I believe, but sent her back on Wednesday. I'm definitely hoping this won't be a trend, although I've heard that kids, especially babies, always pick up illnesses at daycare ...
- Eating a lot of takeout. It was kinda fun to use the excuse of having family in town to get lots of tasty foods. On Thursday, we got Jet's Pizza takeout for dinner, as they had sent me a coupon for a free small pizza a while back, and on Friday, we got Jersey Mike's for lunch and Shake Shack delivered, for dinner. On Saturday, we did The Great Greek takeout for dinner, using their BOGO deal, and on Sunday we ate some of the charcuterie that we bought. On Wednesday, my husband and I were both super tired, so we got Thai Fresh via Doordash, for dinner, and today I was out running an errand—I had to go to the WB Secretary of State—so I got myself Jersey Mike's again for lunch (click here to see some deal codes from my Facebook deal group, I got $2 off today and we did BOGO last Friday!).
