The Friday Five, 11/28/25: 5 things I've been up to this week

Writing this on a Thursday this week, because we are tentatively going to Indiana to see my in-laws tomorrow through Sunday ... however, the weather does not look good (1-3 inches of snow) so plans are now up in the air. We will go to my parents' house today, however, and that's a 15-minute drive, so that is still happening.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Going out to eat! It's a rare treat when I get to dine IN a restaurant nowadays, and I did it twice this week—my husband and I went to Frankenmuth together on Friday, when Baby K was at daycare, and we had the AYCE chicken meal at Zehnders. Also, a friend and I were supposed to see Wheel of Fortune Live this Tuesday, at the Fisher, but it got canceled, so instead we tried out West End Kitchen, in West Bloomfield, which was very good—a bit pricey, but the campfire funnel fries (see pic above) were very tasty (and in the shape of a campfire! With ice cream hidden underneath) and so was the baked feta with naan bread.
  2. Going to Frankenmuth. As mentioned above, my husband and I planned this out a few weeks beforehand, and both took the day off work. We went to Bronner's, which was fun but (expectedly) busy, Zehnder's for AYCE chicken, then two quick stops at the Cheese Haus—they have a Sharp Swiss I love—and the Fudge Kitchen, for the buy three get one free deal. If you are going to Frankenmuth anytime before January 1, stop by the Visitor's Center and get the Peppermint Perks—I posted about it in my Yes/No Detroit Deals group and it kinda blew up (45 likes right now, unusual, but I think a lot of people shared it). I wish we had grabbed that before Zehnder's and Bronner's, because it gives you $5 off when you spend $30—we did take advantage of it at the Cheese Haus and Fudge Kitchen, though.
  3. Eating ice cream for work. A low-sugar gummy brand, Blobs, is doing a collaboration with Ray's Ice Cream, down the street in Royal Oak, so I got to go there on Monday during work hours to try it out and (later) write about it. The ice cream flavor is Ray's peach ice cream mixed with orange Blobs, and was pretty good. Of course I grabbed a pint to go, too (I love their ice cream), although I wish I would have known that pints are $7 and (much larger) half-gallons are $10 ... next time I'd choose the half-gallon. I know Meijer carries their stuff, as well, but not sure if it's more expensive than getting it straight from the source.
  4. Seeing Wicked: For Good. I worked a half-day yesterday and then took advantage of Baby K being in daycare until 5:30pm to see Wicked: For Good. Overall I liked it a lot—I'd give it 4/5 stars—but I think I liked the first one more, since this one, technically Part 2 (events occur immediately after those of the first movie), was much darker. I knew that going in, because I have seen the musical three times (including last January 2024, at the Opera House), but still. I am in the midst of rewatching the first one on Prime now, too, but it's pretty impossible to get 2.5 hours of consecutive time now, so I think I've watched two chunks so far.
  5. Thanksgiving. Like I mentioned before, because I'm writing this on Thursday, I'm not entirely sure what will happen yet, but at minimum, Baby K and I will be going to my parents' house today. I am still hoping Indiana will happen, but we'll see how the weather plays out. **Edit, 11/28: Indiana is not happening, unfortunately, because they are getting 3-6 inches of snow this weekend ...
