The Friday Five, 5/25/18: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
This past weekend, I was at the Motor City Comic Con all weekend, at the Suburban Collection Showcase in Novi, but I also squeezed in a few movies and some good eats, too. Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle panel, at MCCC What I've been up to this week: Attending the Motor City Comic Con . This is what took up most of my weekend, as I attended all three days. On Friday, I went to the Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle panel, which primarily ended up being about Kim Possible  - I'm a fan of CCR's from Even Stevens  but I was a KP  fan as well. On Saturday, we attended the Ethan Embry/Johnny Whitworth (Empire Records ), Jenna Elfman, and Superman  (1978) panels, and on Sunday we saw Summer Glau (Firefly)  and Bronn from Game of Thrones .  Seeing movies . I still made time to see some movies this week - on Friday, I saw Book Club  with my parents (3/5 stars), on Saturday I saw Deadpool 2  (3.5 out of 5 stars), and on Wednesday, I sa...

UPCOMING: Motor City Comic Con, May 18-20, Novi, MI

*Disclosure: I will be attending Motor City Comic Con as media. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. I last attended the Motor City Comic Con in 2015, and they had a great panel lineup that year: one of the most memorable panels I attended was William Shatner's, who is one of my favorite actors, and they also had stars from The Walking Dead  there, and more. I also was able to interview Jodi Lyn O'Keefe , from Vampire Diaries  and Nash Bridges . This year, the panel schedule is just as fab, and I will be attending Saturday and Sunday, and possibly some of Friday, too. General information: The comic con will take place Friday, May 18th, through Sunday, May 20th, at the Suburban Collection Showcase in Novi (Grand River Ave.). Parking is $10 on-site or $5 across the street. For adults, prices are $20 for Friday only, $40 for Saturday only, and $30 for Sunday only, or you can pay $75 for an all-weekend pass (Fri, Sat, Sun). Each pass has a $2 service fe...

That time I sat 10 feet away from William Shatner (Motor City Comic Con 2015)

*Disclosure: I received media credentials to attend MCCC. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Motor City Comic Con, since my only experience thus far with fan conventions was Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta last October. MCCC had a lot more "cosplay" (people dressed up in costumes) than WSC did, which was fun, but was also a bit smaller, although I've heard it's twice the size it was in previous years. On Friday , the first day of the convention, I walked around to get a feel of the place and check out where everything was located. I saw many Walking Dead  cast members, such as Chandler Riggs (Carl), Steven Yeun (Glenn), and Scott Wilson (Hershel), and other oldies but goodies like Lou Ferrigno (the "Hulk") and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island ).

Interview: Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (Vampire Diaries, Nash Bridges) at Motor City Comic Con

Jodi Lyn O'Keefe,  The Vampire Diaries . Credit: ew.com I had the good fortune to snag a few minutes with Jodi Lyn O'Keefe while attending the Motor City Comic Con this past weekend. If you're a  Vampire Diaries  fan, she needs no introduction, as (spoiler ) something major just happened with her character (Dr. Jo) on the show. If you're of an older generation, you might remember her as Don Johnson's daughter from Nash Bridges , which my father and I used to watch together. Warning ... some Vampire Diaries  spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the most recent two episodes. Emma Caulfield, Ksenia Solo, & Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (right) after their MCCC panel Yes/No Films: So, that Vampire Diaries ending - how do you feel about it? O'Keefe: I haven't come to terms with it yet (laughs) . I loved being there, and if you have to go, go big. Do you still keep in touch with all the cast members? Yes. My dad and I used to watch you on Nash B...
