The Friday Five, 8/5/22: 5 things I've been up to this week

We are somehow already into August, so now I am looking forward to my East Coast trip at the end of the month—we are going to sightsee and also see my extended family. As for this week, it was the usual mix of movies, food, TV shows, and fun events.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Dining out + takeout. On Saturday, we were actually in my area for once, so we got Mr. Kabob Xpress in Troy for dinner, one of my favorite Mediterranean places. On Sunday, my parents and I tried the "ExtraMostBestest" pizza at Little Caesars, thanks to a $3 T-Mobile deal ($4 off the regular price). And on Tuesday, my boyfriend and I went to the Royal Oak Brewery before a movie screening at Emagine—they still do a fantastic happy hour, 3-6pm Mondays through Fridays, which includes $3.50 beers, half-off appetizers, and apparently $8.50 pizzas (reg. price: $14). On Tuesdays they also do $3 tacos although we didn't try those. The soft pretzels (pictured above) were very good and we also had the chicken quesadillas and fried avocado.
  2. Seeing movies in the theater. Last Friday I saw DC League of Super Pets, which was pretty cute, although I fell asleep midway; I'd give it 3.5/5 or maybe 4/5, it had a lot of really funny, adult-specific jokes. On Saturday, I saw Vengeance, which I also really liked; probably 4/5 for that one and BJ Novak (plus the secretary from Succession!) does a great job in it. Ashton Kutcher also is in it. On Tuesday, I went to a press screening of Bullet Train, which ended up being a wild ride—it's based on a book of the same name, and you can read my full review here, in which I gave it 4.5/5 stars.
  3. Shopping. I specifically went to Maurice's in Novi on Sunday to pick up some sandals I had ordered from its website, because Crumbl is closed on Sundays ... unfortunately, one of the sandals didn't fit as well as I originally thought, so I headed back Wed. to return them (and of course had to stop by Crumbl, because their lineup looked fantastic this week). I also stopped by Walmart to pick up an umbrella for my boyfriend's house, because it was about to pour that day and he doesn't have a good umbrella currently.
  4. Influencer pick-up event. Tiger Sugar in Madison Heights has released four new drinks and new waffles, and I was invited to come try them. The new drinks are Mango Sago, Strawberry Mochi, Matcha, and Taro, and there are a few different waffle varieties; another influencer told me Mango was her favorite so I tried that one. Everything was very good, especially the waffle, so I recommend checking it out. My favorite of the drinks was a tie between the Mango Sago and the Strawberry Mochi. You can see my Instagram reel here.
  5. Watching TV shows. I finished Fboy Island season 2 on HBO Max yesterday and it had quite a twist ending. I started watching Paper Girls on Prime last night and I wasn't impressed until the end of the first episode, but then the ending of that intrigued me so I watched another episode. On Fridays I usually catch up on Married at First Sight and also Grownish, and I've been wanting to start the new Neil Patrick Harris show on Netflix, Uncoupled, too.
