The Friday Five, 12/22/23: 5 things I've been up to this week

This week was definitely better than last week, since I no longer have COVID and was able to be out and about. Today is my last day of work for 2023, too, which is nice; we are having Christmas with my parents later, and then going to Indiana for a few days to spend time with my fiance's family.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Dining out/getting takeout. Last Saturday, my fiance and I got Buddy's for dinner, because they had offered us 50% off any order, in the app, which was pretty crazy; I got like $80 worth of pizza for $40 (three of their large/eight-square pizzas, and garlic bread with cheese). I think we had enough for like 3-4 days of leftovers ... I actually ended up getting a little tired of Buddy's after that, haha, but it was still tasty, their BBQ chicken pizza especially. Last night, I was able to snag a last-minute (one day before) reservation at Weiss Distilling Company, in Clawson, which I had only been to one time before, and we experienced their "Weiss on Ice" theme (winter theme), which was fun. We each tried out three drinks, and I liked all three of mine.
Before stopping at Weiss, we had put our name in at Noori Pocha, the new Korean gastropub run by Noori (Korean fried chicken takeout place, attached to Noori Pocha); unfortunately, we put our name in at 5:30pm and they called us at 6:10, and we were still at Weiss until 7, so we ended up doing Noori takeout instead, which was still very good. We stopped by Noori Pocha after Weiss, too, to see if we could get in/put our name on the list again, but it was still packed and there were like five names on the list at that point, so decided to do takeout. I highly recommend their "Magic Fries," which apparently has a sweet onion seasoning; it tasted sweet and salty and was delicious. I also really like their soy garlic-flavored wings.
  2. Seeing movies at the theater. I saw Wonka last week, which I thought was very good; I gave it 4 stars out of 5 in my Instagram reel review. Before snagging the Weiss reservation, I was initially planning on seeing Aquaman 2 yesterday, but I canceled it for Weiss and dinner; however, I ended up having more time yesterday than I thought I would, so I was able to see Anyone But You at the theater, which was cute; I also gave it 4 out of 5 stars, in my Twitter review (sorry, but I refuse to call it "X").
  3. Seeing Mannheim Steamroller at the Fox. On Sunday, my fiance, two friends, and I went to see Manneheim Steamroller (Orchestra) at the Fox, with blogger tickets. It was my first time seeing them and I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but they played Christmas music with kind of an '80's flair, which was interesting. I'm not sure I'd see them again, but it was a pleasant night out, and the music was fun (and the Fox is always beautiful, too).
  4. Driving through snow to work out. On Monday, we got maybe an inch of snow, but it stuck, and I had been itching to get back to swimming at my gym, since it had been a few weeks since I went. My fiance and I brushed off my car, and although I'm glad I got to swim, the roads were not great, so it was a little scary; next time I'd maybe take Mother Nature's suggestion and not go.
  5. Booking shows for Vegas. We are headed back to Vegas next month for my birthday, and I took advantage of Vegas.com's Black Friday promotion in November: we each (individual vegas.com accounts) bought a ticket for the Paris Eiffel Tower, which I've been on two times, I believe, for $32, and we EACH got a $100 off code for our next order. I purchased tickets to Awakening, at the Wynn, which looks interesting—it's a new show, and looks very Cirque du Soleil-esque—and we also purchased tickets for Atomic Saloon, at Venetian, using the codes, which was a great deal, otherwise our tickets would've been like $158 each (yikes, expensive). Atomic Saloon has been on my list for a while—it's a Spiegelworld production, which also does Absinthe, one of my all-time favorite Vegas shows I've seen, at Caesars Palace (technically outside it, in the Big Top they installed there), and OPM, formerly Opium, at the Cosmopolitan hotel, which is actually closing this year.
