The Friday Five, 3/14/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
This week has been super busy; the weekend will also be, but I should have time to sit and relax a bit as well. Pesto pizza from Bigalora, Southfield What I've been up to this week: Doctors appointments. I had one yesterday and I have my annual physical today. The one yesterday was very quick but they took bloodwork, which I wasn't expecting, and I'm pretty sure I have to do bloodwork today too ... and I had my Crohn's infusion last Saturday ... so for those of you keeping count, that's three (bloodwork) pokes in one week. Yay.  Seeing Peter Pan at the Fox. On Tuesday, myself and three friends went to the Fox in Detroit to see Peter Pan . Oddly, I have never seen the musical, although I've seen most movie iterations of the show, and probably have read the book before. The musical was a bit chaotic/action-packed, for lack of a better description, but overall I liked it. I'll be at the Fox until Sunday, and you can read more info at my blog post . Seeing Kimbe...

The Friday Five, 12/22/23: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
This week was definitely better than last week, since I no longer have COVID and was able to be out and about. Today is my last day of work for 2023, too, which is nice; we are having Christmas with my parents later, and then going to Indiana for a few days to spend time with my fiance's family. Weiss Distilling Company, Clawson What I've been up to this week: Dining out/getting takeout . Last Saturday, my fiance and I got Buddy's for dinner, because they had offered us 50% off any order, in the app, which was pretty crazy; I got like $80 worth of pizza for $40 (three of their large/eight-square pizzas, and garlic bread with cheese). I think we had enough for like 3-4 days of leftovers ... I actually ended up getting a little tired of Buddy's after that, haha, but it was still tasty, their BBQ chicken pizza especially. Last night, I was able to snag a last-minute (one day before) reservation at Weiss Distilling Company, in Clawson, which I had only been to one time befo...

The Friday Five, 12/16/22: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
This week has again felt long but there were a lot of fun elements too. I'm looking forward to my week off work—I'm taking a half-day next Friday so that we can celebrate Christmas with my parents/have lunch with them at their place, and then the next Monday through Friday I am off work, for the most part. UNO deep dish pizza, from its Farmington Hills, MI restaurant What I've been up to this week: Dining out . My boyfriend's mom was visiting us from Indiana this weekend so we did a lot of dining out, which was fun. In addition, on Sat. for lunch I met a friend at Browndog Northville, which is always tasty (I love their ice cream flights). For Saturday dinner, my boyfriend, his mom, and I went to Detroit and had Detroit Shipping Co. for dinner—it's kind of like a food court/dining hall, and I mostly go to Bangkok 96 there for its Chicken Pad Thai roll (think sushi but with tortilla instead of rice as the holder) and mango sticky rice. We also had dumplings from Momo...

The Friday Five, 10/28/22: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
I can't believe it's already the end of October—this month FLEW by, possibly because I had a work trip and then two weddings to attend, but still. We are headed to Portage this weekend to visit friends, but will be back Sunday night in time for Halloween on Monday. As a childless adult, Halloween is unfortunately not that exciting anymore, but we are going to have a work Zoom "lunch party" of sorts in costume so that will be fun. Free pizza from Green Lantern, Madison Heights What I've been up to this week: Dining in and doing takeout . Last Friday, I had lunch with a friend at Condado Tacos in Royal Oak, which is always good. On Saturday, my mom and I had Noodles for lunch again, because of their 50% off deal, and my boyfriend, a friend, and I went to Frita Batidos in Detroit for dinner before a show, which is always tasty; I usually get a frita (burger) and their garlic fries. On Sunday, we had takeout lunch and dinner with friends, while my boyfriend and one of...

The Friday Five, 6/17/22: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
If you are reading this in the morning or midday on Friday or later, I am probably on my way to Holland—I go to the West Coast of Michigan yearly, and I like to visit Holland, Grand Haven, Saugatuck, and usually Fennville (Crane's for pie flights!). We are staying in Holland this year but ironically don't have any plans to stop by downtown—this year we are fitting in Grand Rapids for some good eats and drinks too. Mean Girls at the Fisher Theatre, Detroit What I've been up to this week: Seeing Mean Girls  at the Fisher Theatre . I was supposed to see this last Tuesday, if you recall, but because the performance was canceled that day due to technical problems, my mom and I were able to reschedule it for the Sunday night performance. The show was a lot of fun—I still prefer the movie version but there were definitely some songs that were bangers that I have been listening to over and over this week on Spotify, too. It's playing at the Fisher through the 19th , so check i...

The Friday Five, 5/13/22: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
I have been staying up too late recently, till like 1am, and then I'm super tired the next day ... just watching TV on my iPad and playing Wordle and whatnot, but I need to curb it back to like 11:30pm-12am. This was a fun and busy week and this weekend is colonoscopy prep, which I have been dreading, because it means I can only have liquids for two days straight. Pad Thai roll with chicken, from Bangkok 96 at Detroit Shipping Co. What I've been up to this week: Seeing shows in Detroit . On Saturday night, I saw Stars on Ice with my boyfriend, a friend, and her daughter, which was a lot of fun—I love ice skating but am terrible at it, so I definitely prefer being a spectator. The show was at Little Caesars Arena and thankfully not that busy. On Sunday, I went back to Detroit, this time to the Fox to see An American in Paris  with my boyfriend, a different friend, and her husband. I had seen the show a few years ago at the Opera House and it was very good; I'd give it 3.5/5 ...

The Friday Five, 4/29/22: 5 things I've been up to this week

Image
This week has seemed really long, for some reason, so I'm glad it's Friday. I have a fun weekend planned, too. Crumbl this week: Passionfruit, Brownie, Confetti Cake, Original ft. PB M&Ms What I've been up to this week: Dining out . Last Friday, my boyfriend and two friends and I were able to try hot pot in a restaurant, which I had been wanting to do for a while but hadn't yet done. Hot pot is basically The Melting Pot but with Asian food—usually with broths, and you cook and meat and veggies in them. I have had it only one time before, in college. We ended up trying Lao Pot, in Madison Heights, since it looked the most authentic; Troy has a new place called Hot Pot City, too, but apparently they bring you all the food already cooked, which isn't how hot pot usually goes. On Sunday, my boyfriend and I did First Watch in Troy for brunch, since I had a $20 gift card from the last time I was there (way back pre-COVID), and we did Union Assembly for dinner, in Detr...

GIVEAWAY: 4 tickets to An American in Paris, May 8, Fox Theatre, Detroit {ends 4/1}

Inspired by the Academy Award winning film, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS transports the audience to post-war Paris, where romance is in the air and youthful optimism reigns.
