The Friday Five, 11/8/24: 5 things I've been up to this week

We are heading to Louisville for a road trip this weekend, and also will stop by Cincinnati to visit friends, which should be fun.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Seeing movies. Oddly enough, I was able to use MoviePass three times in one week (burning through my credits for the monthly period, but the next 1-2 weeks are busy anyways). I saw Here, with Tom Hanks, at Emagine Novi which was excellent—I'd give it 4.5/5 stars—and Conclave, at MJR Troy, which was interesting but not entirely my cup of tea, so I'd give it 3.75/5 stars. I also saw Hitpig, at the Farmington Civic Theater (first time there!) which was a weird one but fun, I would give it 3.5/5 stars. In addition, I watched Martha on Netflix, which was an interesting documentary about her life; I'd probably give that 3.5/5 as well.
  2. Getting takeout and cooking. On Saturday night I saw my parents, so we had Hungry Howie's takeout. On Sunday, since I was in my condo area, I got my husband and I Pink Garlic takeout, and after the Farmington Civic movie on Wednesday, I stopped by Cannelle by Matt Knio, since I'd never been to the Farmington location—they have beautiful pastries, as you can see above, although I found it to be rather pricey, like $8 to $9 per pastry. Last night, I got us Sidecar Slider Bar takeout (one of our faves) since I was already out picking up a book hold at the Farmington library.
We also had a HelloFresh box this week, so we cooked things on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights; this week was a pork chop with couscous and string beans, a beef shawarma pita with blue tortilla chips, and the mushroom pork chops pictured below, and all were tasty.
  3. Watching TV shows. I've been binging Tell Me Lies on Hulu since I've been seeing friends recommend it, and OMG, I just finished season 2 (of 2) and I need more! I got the book from the library too so I'm curious to see how it differs, since it was the source material—but I've read that they only used it for season 1. I also am enjoying the nostalgia—the TV show takes place when the characters are in college, from 2007-2008, and then it flashes to the present, in 2015, and I was in college around that time also (2005-2009); all of the music has been on-point so far, and I'm loving the cover songs too, like Crazy and Mr. Brightside
Other than that, a lot of shows were not on this week because of the election, it seems, so my only new show was Abbott Elementary yesterday.
  4. Getting errands done. On Sunday, I went back to my condo to meet with a cleaner, who gave me an estimate for getting it cleaned, and on Wednesday, I went back to let her in so she could clean; she did a really good job, so my next step will be listing my condo (selling it) at some point. On Tuesday, I had a doctor's appointment and then unexpectedly had to stop at Belle Tire, because my car was making crazy sounds; turns out there was a part loose in it, which was not good, but they fixed it.
  5. Watching the election results on TV. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the election, although I try not to discuss politics on here. My husband and I watched the results coming in on Tuesday night, but by 12:30am I was tired and needed to go to sleep ... it was hard to sleep that night so I think I fell asleep at 1am, and so Wed. I was pretty tired. I also voted IRL for the first time in a long time, that Tuesday around 11am, which was interesting—I usually do absentee, but my issue is that they had put it in my maiden name ... even though I emailed the city to ask if I could still submit it, and they said yes, I wasn't entirely comfortable with that, so I voted IRL. There was a slight issue there because they had it on file that they had mailed me an absentee ballot, so I was able to sign an affidavit saying I would NOT and DID not use the absentee ballot. So a little bit of drama, but otherwise it went smoothly.
