The Friday Five, 8/1/25: 5 things I've been up to this week
This week has been a disjointed one because my schedule has been out of whack, for the most part—I've had OB appointments and other things going on. I'm glad it's Friday but how did August get here so fast?? (my due date is August 26th!)

Giordano's pepperoni pizza and ALDI garlic rolls |
What I've been up to this week:
- Getting delivery/takeout. Last Friday or Saturday, I forget which, I was craving pasta, so we tried out "Main St. Pasta Bar," in Royal Oak, on Doordash, which ended up actually being a front for Milan Pizzeria. The pasta was pretty basic but hit the spot (chicken alfredo fettucine and pesto fettucine) and was a HUGE portion. On Wednesday night, I was going to cook a HelloFresh meal, but we ended up doing Pink Garlic via Doordash, because we were both tired, and last night, I got us Culver's takeout, which is always tasty.
- Work samples. I don't usually post much about these on here, but I'm fortunate to receive snacks and candy samples for my job, in the mail. We recently posted about Giordano's doing a pizza + ice cream collaboration with a local Chicago ice cream place, and they sent me two Giordano's pizzas in the mail plus two containers of the ice cream; I LOVE Giordano's so this was definitely a treat (I looked it up and generally it's like $89.99 for two frozen pizzas, shipped). I made the pizza on Sunday and also threw in some ALDI garlic rolls I had bought that day, and it was very good.
- Watching movies and TV shows. My husband and I watched the original Happy Gilmore, which I had seen but a long time ago, on Netflix last weekend, to prep for the sequel, and it was a lot of fun, if you like slapstick humor. Happy Gilmore 2 was better than I expected—I'd probably give the original 3.75/5 stars, and I'd give this one maybe 3.25 or 3.5. It had a TON of celebrity cameos, too, including Eminem, which I missed, somehow (and the first movie had Bob Barker, which was hilarious, as I'm a huge The Price is Right fan).
In addition, last night I went to the theater to see The Bad Guys 2, in 3D—I was a fan of the first one. I knew something was up when they showed a 3D trailer for Zootopia 2 and the 3D was all blurry (I was like, is this a pregnancy thing, can I no longer see 3D movies? It's been a while. LOL), and when the movie started, the 3D was still blurry, so I stepped out of the theater and went to get management. The theater fixed the movie and restarted it, luckily, though unfortunately for me, I was tired (always ...) and slept through most of it. What I saw was a lot of fun, though, and the 3D was great, so I'll have to catch it again on streaming. - Daycare visits. I visited a few daycares this week; one was decent, one was fine, and one I wasn't impressed by (I won't say where I went, though). The one I liked the most of the three is a very close drive, I was impressed with their security measures and also a few other aspects.
- Cooking. Not much else going on this week, but I did get a HelloFresh box, and cooked Monday and Tuesday nights. Monday was a beef shawarma-type pita with a side salad, and it was good but not enough food. Tuesday was a tortellini bake with panko on top, and we added some andouille sausage from Kern's in Frankenmuth that I found in our freezer, which was also very good. The meal for tonight is Thai smashed pork patties with green beans and coconut rice, which I'm looking forward to trying. Next week I'm getting EveryPlate, but my last meal service delivery will be August 19th—kind of cutting it close there, but I ordered a few microwaveable meals for that date, just in case I go into labor.
