Movie Review: Last Days, in theaters October 24

Movie Review: Last Days, in theaters October 24

My review:

This was an interesting story. I had not heard of John Allen Chau before, but I love movies based on true stories, so I did some research on him after watching the movie. Relative newcomer Sky Yang plays Chau, and I recognized Ken Leung as the actor playing his father, as he's in HBO's show Industry, which I like.

Overall, I thought the story was an important one, but I did think the film jumped around a little too much—it explores his relationships with family, friends, and others, including his most important one (with Jesus and spreading the word of God), but doesn't linger too long with any. That being said, make sure to have some Kleenex nearby, because the ending, especially, will have you tearing up.

3/5 stars.

This past Friday, I had the pleasure of staying at the Bavarian Inn Lodge , in Frankenmuth, Michigan, for one night. I've been to Frankenmuth many times, and even stayed overnight in the neighboring Birch Run, but I had never stayed directly in the city before, so I was excited to stay at the Lodge. Friday was a rainy day, but we didn't let that stop us from having fun. We stopped at Halo Burger, in Birch Run, for lunch—there used to be locations in Novi and Troy, but both closed, and their food is very good—and then hit up Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, which is the largest Christmas store in the world.  For those who are unfamiliar with Frankenmuth , it is a German/Bavaria-themed town, about an hour north of the Metro Detroit area, nicknamed "Michigan's Little Bavaria."
