The Friday Five, 2/6/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

I am SUPER tired today because Baby K decided to get up at 5:20am—Fridays are the one day we can sleep till 6:30am instead of 6:00am, because my husband works from home that day, so I wasn't super pleased. I'm going to rally, though, because I'm seeing Phantom of the Opera later at the Detroit Opera House (it will be there till Feb. 15), and it's one of my favorite musicals.

What I've been up to this week:

  1. Going out for my birthday dinner. First Baby K was sick, then I think my husband or I had a cold, but finally last weekend we had time to go out for my birthday dinner, with my parents babysitting. I asked my husband to keep the venue a surprise, because I am usually the planner in our relationship and sometimes I like being surprised. We ended up going to The Reserve Steakhouse, in Brighton, which was excellent, except I thought the steak (supposed to be the star of the show!) was just okay. The appetizers and service were phenomenal, drinks were good, and they give you both a birthday sundae AND a really nice candle to take home, which I haven't encountered anywhere else—pretty cool. I would definitely go back but would maybe try a different steak; I got the petit filet and my husband got the NY strip, and they were fine, but not for the price point (I'm also kind of a steak snob, as I make a great steak at home, but still).
  2. Shoe shopping. I got a DSW gift card for Christmas and really needed new sneakers, so I went on Saturday while my husband watched the baby. I ended up getting a pair of sneakers and also some nicer shoes that I can wear on an upcoming work trip. I really need some new winter boots, too—I think pregnancy changed my shoe size, I used to be like 7.5-8 and now am like 9-9.5 which is nuts—but they didn't have a big selection, unfortunately.
  3. Watching TV shows. I binged His & Hers on Netflix this week and it was fabulous, I'd give it 5/5 stars. I've also been keeping up with Hijack, Tell Me Lies, and Shrinking, but I need to catch up on Industry (HBO), as I think I'm about 1.5 episodes behind.
  4. Getting takeout/delivery. On Saturday, I got Potbelly's for lunch for my husband and I while I was out, because they gave me a free birthday dessert on their website/app. On Tuesday, he picked up Domino's for us on the way home from work—Sam's Club is still doing that deal, pay $70 and get $100, which is pretty nice—and last night, we got El Patio via Doordash for dinner.
  5. Not going to Frankenmuth. Last Friday, my husband and I had already pre-arranged to take the day off work, for both of us, to go to Frankenmuth for their snow/ice festival. However, it was like 10 degrees out and we were both tired/sick/on the edge of sickness, so instead we just stayed local—we went to Sam's Club for gas and groceries, and had lunch at Culver's, in Wixom, which was nice. It was a bummer to miss the festival but I've been a few times over the years, so maybe next year we'll go instead.
