The Friday Five, 8/21/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

This has been an out-of-sorts week: we were in Indiana last Friday (hence why no Friday Five post last week) through Monday, and then Baby K stayed there with her grandparents until Thursday. She just got home yesterday, since we are having her 1st birthday party tomorrow.

What I've been up to this week:
  1. Attending a wedding. The reason we went to Indiana is that one of my husband's friends was getting married—I had met this friend a few times, and had only met his fiancee once, at our wedding two years ago, actually. The ceremony was at a church, conveniently like a 5-minute drive from my in-laws' house, and the reception was at a nearby community center. A lot of our friends went, including some who live in South Carolina whom we don't see often, and it was a fun time; we also attended an after-party with the same friends, too, and stayed out way too late, but it's not something we do that often now with a baby. 
  2. Seeing Lindsey Stirling at Freedom Hill. This was my eighth time seeing Lindsey Stirling—I've seen her at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor (July 2016); the Fox (Oct. 2016); Stranahan Theater in Toledo (Dec. 2019); Freedom Hill three times (Aug. each time, in 2021, 2024, 2026); Centennial Terrace in Ohio (Aug. 2023); and Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids (Dec. 2023). We had excellent seats and she put on a fabulous concert per usual—I feel like every time I see her, her concert is even better than the last one, and that's saying something, as all her concerts are always fantastic.
  3. Spending time with family. We were in Indiana Friday through Monday, which is always a fun time, and Baby K got to see her grandparents (plus do an extended vacation with them, as I mentioned above, through this Thursday). 
  4. Getting tasty takeout. In Indiana, we got Raising Cane's the first night, which is becoming kind of a tradition at this point, and Panda Express that Sunday, which I'm always a big fan of. On Monday when we got home, we got Culver's—I wanted their new fried pickles, which are pretty good—and on Tuesday, after doing some house chores, we got Pink Garlic takeout via Doordash. On Wednesday, I wanted us to eat something quick before the concert, so I ordered us takeout from The Great Greek, and my husband was able to pick it up on his way home from work. 
  5. Watching TV shows. I'm almost done with Sterling Point, on Prime, which was supposed to be like Gilmore Girls; IMO it's not, but I still like it. I need to watch this week's Millionaire still, but I'm caught up on Married at First Sight, and Furious. Lucky, on AppleTV, wrapped up this week, too, and I wish it wasn't a limited series (aka only one season) because it had a great cast and was fantastic.

Trip Review: Bavarian Inn Lodge, Frankenmuth, MI

This past Friday, I had the pleasure of staying at the Bavarian Inn Lodge , in Frankenmuth, Michigan, for one night. I've been to Frankenmuth many times, and even stayed overnight in the neighboring Birch Run, but I had never stayed directly in the city before, so I was excited to stay at the Lodge. Friday was a rainy day, but we didn't let that stop us from having fun. We stopped at Halo Burger, in Birch Run, for lunch—there used to be locations in Novi and Troy, but both closed, and their food is very good—and then hit up Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, which is the largest Christmas store in the world.  For those who are unfamiliar with Frankenmuth , it is a German/Bavaria-themed town, about an hour north of the Metro Detroit area, nicknamed "Michigan's Little Bavaria." The Friday Five, 4/24/26: 5 things I've been up to this week

The past week was pretty busy, because my husband and Baby K and I went to Indiana on Thursday, and then he and I were in Louisville from Friday through Monday with my sister-in-law (Baby K stayed with my in-laws).  Boudin balls at North of Bourbon, Louisville What I've been up to this week: Having good food . We kicked off the trip with dinner at North of Bourbon, one of my favorites—this is my third trip to Louisville (Nov. 2024 and Dec. 2025 were the others) and it's a very tasty restaurant. We always get the boudin balls (with pork, see pic above) and this time I split the chicken gumbo and a mushroom risotto-type dish with my SIL.  On Saturday, we ended up going to a food hall close to Rabbit Hole distillery (more on that below), and had some tapas-type items, like empanadas, which was good, and we also had really good charcuterie at the Garden and Gun Club, at Stitzel-Weller (see below) plus had good Italian food at Volare, which we had been to last December. Review: Polar Pizza at Baskin-Robbins

*Disclosure: I received a gift card to try the new Polar Pizza at Baskin-Robbins. The opinions expressed here, however, are my own. Baskin-Robbins launched its Polar Pizza last month (July), as I talked about in my recent post about them, and because this past month was crazy busy for me, I didn't get to try the Polar Pizza until this past Sunday. My parents and I went to the combined Dunkin' Donuts / Baskin-Robbins near them, in Novi, MI, to split one of the ice cream pizzas.
